AIBU to ask for advice on hanging washing out?

I know this sounds ridiculous but omg it's driving me crazy. The weather has been absolutely beautiful here the past few days so I take any opportunity I can get to hang my washing outside.

Today is super windy and no matter what I do, my stuff either goes flying off the line or all bunches together! I've gone running out at least 10 times already today and it's so annoying!

Normally I would put it down to weather conditions but my smug neighbour has her washing blowing happily, all sitting in place perfectly. What am I doing wrong?! I'm sure my pegs are pretty sturdy and I definitely know how to hang washing, just somehow hers stays put and mine makes a break for it. We both just have lines rather than whirligigs/rotary dryers if that makes a difference.

Any advice is appreciated

Use proper wooden pegs and push them further into the line on windy days.

Yep, wooden pegs are the best. Pushed as far on the line as you can. Mine never moves!

Wooden pegs stop the washing shimmying along the line.

I've never had a problem with the pound-shop pegs I use. Are you shoving them down all the way to the hinge when pegging? If you peg clothes up with just the indentation, the hole, in the closed side gripping the line they won't be nearly as secure. If that makes sense. And it probably doesn't.

The last two lots of washing line I have bought has been very thin and only lasted a year or so...where my previous one lasted a good 15 years odd. The thin line does make a difference as there isn't much for pegs to grip.

Anyone bought any decent line recently ?

Same here I use cheap plastic ones and never have a problem.

Make sure heaviest part of your washing is the bit hanging not the bit you peg (e.g peg bottoms of shirts, not the tops, peg the ankle holes of the pants, not the top belly part)

Make sure you're folding enough clothing over the line and then pegging it as far down as the peg can go. It will have two 'gaps' and you need to make sure you're using the gap right next to the spring to clip onto the washing line otherwise it won't have enough friction to stay in place. Speaking as someone whose washing is usually blowing horizontal, your washing line is too thin or too plastic so the washing slides about even with good pegs.
