Holiday once a month

Just looking for opinions really, and to see if this is normal 😂 My 2YO is watched overnight on a Monday by MIL as I work on a Tuesday until 7pm. Hubby up mega early to go to work and finishes late. Unknown to MIL and hubby I took a holiday from work today and LOVED it. Got up at 12 noon, faffed about, went for a bath and a
lie down later. Contemplating doing this once a month 🤪 Anyone else do the same?

Won’t your DH ask why you’re 12 days of leave down?

Report
blackteasplease · 15/05/2018 22:32

Do you have that much annual leave?

Or do you mean you are a sahm? if you arw a sahm you could do it openly!

How are you going to explain your lack of holiday when it comes to family time if you have spent 12 of your legal 20 days (I know plus 8 bank holidays) when DH says lets have a fortnight away. (Obviously you may have a greater holiday entitlement at your place of work, but I doubt it's enough to hide 12 days)

Nope, I wouldn't be telling hubby! Can't be doing with the grief as i would be furious if he did that with me when my parents watched son 😂 I work PT and get an excellent holiday package so feel like I should take advantage before DS starts nursery lol

Good for you OP. Nothing wrong with taking a wee day to yourself now and again.

I think if you do this but can't do it openly there's something wrong somewhere. I think you should be able to tell your partner this is what you are doing if he wouldn't even notice as you say. Then he can have some equivalent free time too.

Black tea please my hubby has plenty of days to himself, weekend always with friends, golf, football etc. We both do as we want in fairness and always have family time. Don't upset yourself regarding our relationship, I can assure you it works for us Smile

In my last job there were a couple of years I had so much holiday with an already generous allowance, lieu days and buying leave I was struggling to take it all and I took the whole week of my birthday off when Husband was at work and kids were in school. Awesome!

Why

A) favour from mil looking after little.one so op can work. Not so op can have a bath and piss about . Obviously depends on her position a bit more eg does she do this on her only days off her work job etc or is it a thing she enjoys doing anyway. Would be different if mil was aware and still happy to do it.

2) husband unaware and saying that if husband did It she would be furious with him. Outrageous double standards.

I don't think it's brilliance at all. If you need that alone time fine.. chat to mil.and hubby and be open about it . I'd feel.like a right cowbag soaking in my bath while someone else looks after my child thinking I was at work and my husband working a long day thinking I was too

So that's exactly why you should do it openly. As he already has time to himself, you are having some too.

Im not remotely upset, I'm answering a question on a public forum with my opinon whilst dipping in and out of other threads.

As my mum and dad don't keep well, so it would be taking advantage. MIL on the other hand is fit as a fiddle and adores having him

This sounds great, a friend of mine gets three 'duvet days' in addition to her generous annual leave, she can literally call in and say I'm taking a duvet day, that's living the dream
