AIBU?

Pyjamas In Hotels

There was a thread recently discussing people wearing pjs in public. We just got back to our hotel and the lift stopped at the floor with the bar, the doors opened and a woman got in wearing pyjamas and slippers and carrying a bottle of wine. She seemed a bit surprised to see us in the lift and we all got off at the same floor. I wouldn’t be brave enough to go to the bar in a hotel dressed like that, but I had to admire her chutzpah. Aibu to think folk should at least throw on some clothes before appearing in public?

If she was sat in the bar in her jim jams I may have raised an eyebrow. But she just nipped down to buy a bottle of wine, and was covered, so I can't get worked up.

Ffs. I honestly wouldn't want to. I find it really lazy.

Generally I'd agree, but maybe she just really needed some wine!

Nice PJs though? I couldn’t go scruffy but I always wear nice Jimmies in a hotel. And definitely a bra.

It's not something I would do, but can;t get worked up about anyone else doing it.

Thin cotton summer pyjamas with a short top and fluffy mules.

I wouldn't go down to breakfast in them or sit in the hotel bar in them but I have gone down got a drink and taken it back to the room.

I stay in the same hotel every year and I often see people in their pyjamas at breakfast, but I've never seen any wearing PJ's at the bar.

I did once see a teenager wearing PJ's at the theatre, complete with dressing gown. I did wonder about that.

Did the floor with the bar on have rooms on it as well?

She may have been in a friend's room and going back to her own room with the end of a shared bottle.

CowesTwo · 11/05/2018 22:34

No, it was only the bar and restaurant on that floor, no rooms.

In hotels I think it’s ok to go from A to B in your jamas.
Sitting in the restaurant or at the bar is a bit OTT but nipping round is fine, surely?

I queued behind a woman in Aldi the other day who was wearing a pink dressing gown and fluffy slippers. She was with an equally casually dressed friend and a shoeless child. We don’t get that in Waitrose.

Sorry but for me that is a definite no, it looks so slovenly/lazy and projects such a poor image. No pyjamas in public areas (unless hospital/fire alarm etc).

I would've used room service.

I like her chutzpah but I wouldn’t do it.
I do however appreciate comfort and have changed into leggings & hoodie for hotel breakfast, then gone back to bed.

I have seen people in onesies in the local Morrisons

Room service is ££££s generally, plus you have to wait.

What sort of hotel is it?

Is it a spa type place where people wander around in bathrobes, etc?

When my Grandad was in his 90's my mum took him on holiday to visit some old haunts. One morning he wasn't in his hotel room at the agreed time, and she found he had wandered downstairs in his stripy pyjamas, body warmer and golf cap, and ensconced himself in the very posh restaurant, where he was eating breakfast and doing the farmers crossword.

Nobody batted an eyelid.
