Not so much aibu more like HELP! I've been steadily losing my hair for the past 2 years.. It's so thin and won't grow. Looking back at pictures from 5 years ago it's half the length and thickness it once was. Ive tried tons of scalp serums, oils and vitamins and i cant say anything has really worked. Can you share with me your hair secrets?

I use Philip Kingsley products to build body and shine, take Biotin supplements and have an Olaplex treatment every month.

I've no idea if my hair being healthy is due to those things or just good genes.

I've been looking at olaplex and heard it's really good for repairing the hair. It's not cheap but I think I may have to invest. It's got to the point where I'm considering hair extensions, my hair is thinning so much.

You could try seeing a trichologist, Op?

How old are you OP? I am 56 and I found that post menopause my hair is considerably less thick than it used to be. I take hair and nail supplements , use conditioning treatments every time I wash it and have it cut regularly so it looks ok but i know it's not what it was . Having regular colour and highlights also makes it look thicker.

Assuming you are not menopausal it might be worth seeing your doctor about this. I think that thyroid problems can effect hair.

I've never actually thought about this! Thanks, I'll have a look :)

I'm 30. My hair has always been very thick and wavy. Now I see more down the plug hole than I'd like to admit. I've tried all the tricks off scruching when wet and not brushing until partially dry. I'm currently sat with a coconut treatment on my hair

*scrunching. I'd actually never considered thyroid. I'm also thinking my diet isn't that great either. I wonder if my contraceptive pill is partly to blame? Definitely noticed it's happened around the same time as I started taking oral contraceptives.

Do you colour your hair, OP ?

This was the reason I stopped colouring and grew out the grey. My hair was thin and dull.

I've had no colour on it since May 2015. It is in much better condition now - thick, soft and shinier. And silver !

How often are you washing it ? I wash mine twice a week maximum. If I'm not at work I'll try to eke it out to once a week. I use a salon shampoo and conditioner which was advised because they have no silicone. Although I do sometimes stray from that and use a cheaper brand.

When my diet was bad I started losing my hair eventually and even had bald patches. With improved nutrition it grew back and (despite being awful like wire) there is a lot of it. I’d also see your GP and maybe ask a pharmacist about your pill because anything related to hormones can also affect your hair.

Have y you had a blood test? Anaemia (low ferratin) can cause hair loss.

What pill are you on OP? I had this exact thing when I changed to cylest, but it took me years to twig that it was linked to the pill. It just got worse and worse and only started to improve when I started ttc, but nearly 3 years after coming off it, my hair is still nowhere near as thick as it was.

Check iron.
Check contraceptives. Made my hair thin.
Check thyroid.

My hair is thick and curly. It's a bloody pain to sort in the mornings.

See your GP as you're only 30 and losing hair isn't to be expected at your age.

I have the same problem, post menopausal, [well past]
I have just bought some shampoo, conditioner, and a spray, called Roots from Superdrug, it has good reviews,on offer at the moment from their website,i think is the spray that is the main thing for promoying hairgrowth it does leave your hair feeling very soft,
I wouldnt usually buy anything like thois but as said the reviews are good
The spray has to be to be sprayed on the scalp 3 times a day
As said though could be thyroid related, mine wasnt

My hair has improved massively since improving my diet. I eat loads of fruit, veg and dairy and my skin and hair has never been better.

My hair has been coming out in fistfuls, to the point I now have to do a comb-over. One thing I can tell you is NOT to get hair extensions - it damages the hair and you'll be left with even more thinning. Trust me on this. :-(

Two months ago I started using Biosil, which apparently was scientifically proved to grow hair. I will say my hair has stopped falling out as fast, but it's difficult to say for certain it's because of that or if it's just not falling out for the moment. I'm also saving up for one of those laser caps which stimulate the follicles to promote growth and thicker individual hairs. It's FDA approved. :-) It also costs about $700, so it better fucking work. :-( But that just goes to show how bald and desperate I am.

I've been on Yasmin for about 18months and it's definitely accelerated during that point. I'm going to make a doctor's appointment and a dress these things that's been mentioned.

Just a thought OP,but have you checked your diet? I was seriously ill many years ago (1994) and barely ate for nearly 4 months as I was constantly nauseous or being sick. After about 3 months, and 2 long spells in hospital,I noticed that my hair was falling out. Shock. I was devastated as I'd always prided myself on my thick, healthy hair. While I'd been ill,I had been severely anaemic, besides lacking in all the usual vitamins and minerals, and my consultant said that this was probably the cause of my hair loss. As I gradually started eating too much better again, the hair loss slowed down, then stopped. Within 9 or 10 months it was back to normal.

Thank you all! To be honest I thought my hair loss was weight related.. and in nearly 2 years I've lost quite a good amount of weight to where it's now considered 'normal' thyroid is a good one to brinfuo with gp. A previous poster asked about hair washing, I do it 3 times a week now. Way more than never used to.. mainly because I've been getting dry patches around my hairline which won't budge without a good wash.

This is my current hair. It doesn't look so bad on the photo, but it's very flat and thin
