I never thought that there was a right or wrong way to eat cucumber, but my friend says the way I have it is weird

I think the way she has it is odd but not really bothered because it's just cucumber, who cares? She won't let it go though so we are turning it over to MN to find out which is more common way of eating cucumber

A) Eaten whole, biting in to it like a banana
B) Sliced on salad/sandwich or in strips for snack/with lunch
C) Other way of eating it?

B. Never heard of anyone who does A

C) take out of fridge, smell it and throw it in the food waste bin...

But when my kids ate it when they were small they liked it cut into batons I suppose they'd be called or sliced.

I have never in my life considered holding a cucumber and biting chunks off it! I’ve never seen anyone do that either. I only have it sliced in a salad, I slice it or cut into batons for DS depending on how I feel.

B, obviously. Unless you're talking about those mini cucumbers you can buy, in which case A makes sense.

B, but YABU if those slices are not placed on Tuc crackers slathered with Philadelphia.

Actually the thought of someone casually holding a whole cucumber and biting into it is really odd to me! Sorry to whichever one of you that is!

B!

A is odd, I’ve never seen that and I’m a cucumber lover. I sometimes cut off hunks to eat but never eat like a banana.

@SluttyButty - you beat me to it. Vile stuff.

I eat it whole like a fruit sometimes (technically it is). Also, sliced, pickled, in bits....

I've seen plenty of people eat them like a banana Grin but then I worked picking them for a while. they are very refreshing eaten like that, when working in a hot environment.

DS2 eats them like A when we have an abundance of them.

But normally B.

B for me, but my DS uses the A method. He doesn't eat much fruit, but can eat a whole cucumber instead. He's 15 btw.

I have never come across anyone who does A!!!

We eat it diced in salad, sliced in sandwiches and in battons with dips.
Never whole like a banana!!!!

My DD does A.
I would go for B

B and C

C is when chopping it for DC lunches, I do occasionally chop a large chunk off and bite into it.

Depends on the type of cucumber. Lebanese style cucumbers are perfect for A)

Erm... What sort of monster bites into a cucumber like an apple?

Do you eat the whole thing? Or put the gnawed half back in the fridge?

Report
EBearhug · 25/04/2018 13:50

Slices for salads and sandwiches and garnishing.

Batons for dips.

Chunks (1-2"/2-5cm long) for snacking (cut the chunk off first. Biting the whole cucumber directly is just not done!)

Take a chunk, scoop out the seeded centre and fill with mayo for a snack I often had as a teenager.

If you're talking about an ordinary large cucumber the A seems a really odd way of eating it. It's a lot of cucumber to eat in one go as well.

I'm very ambivalent about them and go through phases of not being able to eat them at all. The idea of eating a whole one, or taking big bites out of one makes me feel a bit gaggy tbh.

Slice it or dice it depending on what I'm using it for. I use it in an infuser water bottle too. I love cucumber.

DS would vote A, but he is only 21 months old. He will eat quite a lot if he gets his hands on a whole one- far more than if I give him slices or batons.
Otherwise, I mostly go for B, although I will sometimes cut myself a good 2 or 3 inches and eat that a bit like an apple. It is wonderfully refreshing straight out of the fridge.

Friend is the one who eats it like a banana, large cucumbers not the mini ones, she normally gets the half cucumber portion from supermarket and eats it all like a banana

She says most of you are just weird, as am I, for eating it other ways. She really doesn't understand why you would do this! Hmm

I wouldn't eat it the way she does but I don't have particularly strong feelings about the fact that she does, it's just cucumber Confused

Definitely B. Although I have been guilty of A.

I have a friend who eats a cucumber like a banana, too. I only discovered this when I went on a picnic with her.

I go with C), which is pickled.
