AIBU?

To expect my cleaner to actually clean

Yet again today have had another text

‘I did the 4 hours but didnt get time to clean the bathroom sorry’

Really ? Not even time for a 5 min wipe round with some bathroom wipes ??
For reference it’s a 4 bed. 1 reception room (which hadn’t been dusted either or anything just quickly hoovered it looks like)
In 4 hrs I’d expect something at least to have been done in the bathroom ?
This has happened a few times now ..... I’ve done this many hours but haven’t done one of the jobs that’s meant to be fine in that time frame
I don’t understand

She was sunbathing in your garden op....
Cleaner here, 4 hours is plenty for a whole house if done regularly.

That size house doesn’t need 4 hours. Is she just cleaning or tidying up first?

Watching this as I’m dealing with this am being a doormat and hope it all sorts itself out

4 hours is plenty unlikely it’s an absolute filth pit!!

I wasn't the fastest of cleaners (but very thorough) and even I'd have easily managed to clean a 4 bed, 2 bathroom house in 4 hours!!

Do you use an agency or is she/he self employed?

Same size house here - Cleaner does it in 2

Report
BackPins · 20/04/2018 20:15

She does a small amount of tidying but it’s not really much at all
It’s meant to be

  • hoover everywhere
  • clean hard floors

-kitchen
-dusting
-change half of the beds one week other half the next (so 3 bedding changes)
-bathroom
-any other cleaning

I would have thought even a 5 Min wipe over could have been managed ? Even if she had said she couldn’t do the proper clean it would have been better to wipe over quickly and say that rather than nothing at all

Why do people come on MN to complain about their cleaners?

You get someone to work for you, if there's a problem, you need to address it with them?
Not moan here?

I have a 4 bed, three reception room house (admittedly one of those is the little-used conservatory), we also have an en suit and a separate shower cubicle in the main bathroom.

My cleaner does everything (brilliantly!) in 2hrs.

She’s taking the piss. Mine knows she can do up to 3 if she thinks she needs it but she hasn’t done it yet...

No it’s not that bad. She is quite slow and she told me it would need 4 hrs each week when I’m here I notice she spends 1 whole hour in the kitchen moves everything etc but then when I’m not here can’t get the bathroom done in that time ??? She’s either not an effective cleaner or there’s more to it

No or good enough. Bathrooms kitchen and floors should be priority.

I suppose you could say that about a lot of threads on MN, it’s somewhere to vent I guess

Mine does the same in two hours minus the bedding. That can be quite time consuming but not two hours worth!

Not not or

I just read your update. My cleaner doesn’t change my beds or anything like that. She just cleans - dusts, hoover & mops, wipes down skirting boards and doors and cleans the bathrooms and kitchens.

I agree with the others. My cleaner does our small two bedroom in 90 minutes. She doesn’t do the windows, which drives me mad, but otherwise does a great job.

Sack her off.

I live in a 4 bed house with two reception rooms and my cleaner does the whole house in 2 1/2 hrs. She comes two days a week and will do a deeper clean in the kitchen during one of those days. However it is just cleaning, not tidying or stripping beds. Is she taking too much time in one area or does it look like a general poor job all over? If it is its time to get a new cleaner.

Unless you leave your house in a tip beyond what anyone could clean in 4 hours, then I have no idea why she isn't able to hit up the bathroom too. So I call lazy.

I have a large ish 4 bedroom house - my cleaners only need 2.5 hours a week. 2 of them here for 1hr and 15 mins. You need a new cleaner

Maybe you'll need to micromanage her. Write a list of priorities and put the bathroom on there along with all the other rooms and bits that are important, and ask her to tick it all off as she goes along.

She won't like it but it will get your point across.

Report
ferrier · 20/04/2018 20:26

Ask her to do the jobs in priority order. For me that would be bathroom, kitchen, bedding, hard floors. Then dust and hoover lounge, then stairs, then bedrooms.

I could easily spend 4 hours just in one room but I've always had a slow setting and I'm not a professional cleaner.

4 hours? Shock
Is your house a reallyhuge 4 bed with masses of clutter?
If not, she is taking the piss.

Try someone else. Ask for a quote to do ALL of the jobs you want doing every week.
For example 10 jobs = £X.00

That way you pay a fixed price for the jobs to be done not for time

Hoover everywhere in a 4 bed - 45 minutes/an hour?

Clean hard floors - depends how many, but probably 10 mins per floor, then water changes etc.

Kitchen - she spends an hour, like you say.

Dusting everywhere - half an hour?

3 bedding changes - 40 minutes? (Assuming she puts a wash in too?)

Maybe she's a bit slow, but I doubt she's sunbathing.
