Everyone where I work knows how much I love colleague said only last week I couldn't imagine coming in and seeing you in a bad mood.I work 13 hour days often and even and all weekends. It's my life.Recently I booked holidays and was surprised my days off were my hols so paid twice for seven day weeks.I accept.this.
I'm not afraid of hard work either my boss said I never stop.Recently I've been getting joint pain in my hands and knees bad I can barely lift even light objects.Last night after a.short nine hour shift my.knees were so painful I couldn't stand.and had to crawl upstairs.I asked.Th for a drink and painkillers much to his anger and ranting.!
Today they are no dang the doctor.who said I need a blood.test and examination.
I.was.working a.couple of hours this eve and told boss I needed to rest it with ice.
Work would be quiet but he would have to do a.couple more hours.
I'm sure the blood see.if I have arthritis.
Next I get a text from.another colleague......You may need to cover the boss to make up the hours.....i.can barely stand and had planned on offering my next day off as cover anyway.
I'm furious.......I won't get paid tonight and they know I lost my Dad not so long ago.
I think it is disgusting.I know I'm feeling sorry for myself with being in pain.Aib u to have one eve off.i n. 9 months?

I'm not entirely sure what you are saying about holidays being the same as days off so paid twice??
But no....of course you are not being unreasonable, people get sick! I think the lesson here is that you need to take a step back from work, honestly, people DO NOT APPRECIATE going above and beyond in the work place. Just do your job and nothing more. I really hope your pain resolves, it's crappy being in long term pain.

What do you mean your days off are holidays so you paid twice in7 days? And you need to cover the boss.
Are you in the uk? I don’t quite get what your work pattern is , 12 hour shifts how many days a week?
There are laws about how many shifts you can work in a row, have you looked into employment law?

whatisforteamum Mon 16-Apr-18 16:52:45

He's booked.holidays day three days.then.expected two off to to be given three the rest.paid.I.wanted.the.time off not the money. This happened I get.a.text you owe.the boss who earns

I signed up to do.48 however more often than 55/57 even.

Catspaws Mon 16-Apr-18 16:55:23

Wtf is going on with your typing...?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha Mon 16-Apr-18 16:57:22

OP, have you taken some painkillers?

Would you be better off coming back to this later?

heateallthebuns Mon 16-Apr-18 16:57:28

I can't really understand what you're saying. However, you're not going to get thanks for going above and beyond, just do your contracted work and go home.

FluffyHippo Mon 16-Apr-18 16:57:43

If you love working so much, you shouldn't have a problem, should you? You should want to cover for your boss. All the time. For free, right?

ghostyslovesheets Mon 16-Apr-18 16:57:43

I'm sorry but I am struggling to follow

if you are sick you don't pay work - you are sick - and holidays are paid surely?

VladmirsPoutine Mon 16-Apr-18 16:58:12

I'm not sure if yabu or not. Yanbu to want one evening off in 9months to look after a sick relative but what is happening here?

steff13 Mon 16-Apr-18 16:59:46

If you're sick, you're not being unreasonable to call off work. But I'm not sure that's what you're asking. I'm sorry about your dad, but I'm not sure what that has to do with any of this, either.

MrsGrindah Mon 16-Apr-18 17:01:59

Well it’s difficult to understand exactly , but I think you feel aggrieved because you’ve been asked to cover for your boss in exchange for hours he or she did for you? Is that right? In which case it seems fair but only when you are well...sounds like you are not fit for work at the the moment.

whatisforteamum Mon 16-Apr-18 17:03:08

Sorry garbled.rant.I am angry.that I return when I nine months is nothing in my

bimbobaggins Mon 16-Apr-18 17:05:58

Can you stop putting a full stop after every word?

Osirus Mon 16-Apr-18 17:07:32

It’s not the ranting it’s all the “.” and weird bolding. Is something wrong with your device? I think you might need to rewrite to get many meaningful responses. It’s very hard to follow in its current format. Sorry OP!

Dagnabit Mon 16-Apr-18 17:08:04

Who's ranting and raving for having to get you a drink and painkillers? Your partner? Sounds like everyone takes advantage of you...

FilledSoda Mon 16-Apr-18 17:08:42

I'm not sure I understand all the issues involved but you loving your work and going above and beyond can often backfire , especially if when something goes wrong you feel very hard done by. No one is asking or expecting you to be a martyr to your job.
However if you are sick you're sick ,unless you own the business it isn't your responsibility to find cover for the boss.
I know some of my meds can make me very woolly headed and I wonder if that's what's going on with your post.

dirtyquerty Mon 16-Apr-18 17:09:06

Do you mean they counted your holidays as you your days off? so you got paid for 5 days instead of 3?

Never go above and beyond at work because it just causes bad feeling when you decide you don't want to anymore.

I would complain formally about the colleague texting you. Thats not ok. You were genuinely ill but even if not its for your boss to talk to you not them.

I would seriously consider though if you have transferable skills. Arthritis & 13 hour physical days dont make a good mix.

Sorry for the loss of your dad

LagunaBubbles Mon 16-Apr-18 17:15:15

Im sorry I dont have a clue what you are trying to say, the full stops dont help to.
No-one is saying you are a skiver are they?

MarthaArthur Mon 16-Apr-18 17:15:42

So you work full time. 12 hour shifts but always do overtime.
Your boss ranted at you because you needed a drink and painkillers.
You dont get paid for sick days?
You had one day off in 9 months and your boss 8s demanding you cover his shifts when he knows you need that time off?

LagunaBubbles Mon 16-Apr-18 17:15:59

And if you arent fit to do your job you should be off sick.

DaisysStew Mon 16-Apr-18 17:22:21

It doesn’t matter how hard you work, how much you love your job etc, your company either pays sick leave or it doesn’t - simple. If sick pay isn’t in your contract then you’re not entitled to it, so you either take the loss or make up the hours.

I’m not saying it’s fair but that’s how it is for most people. My DS had a really bad stomach bug last week so I had to go in Saturday to make up the hours because I could afford to lose a days pay. Not ideal but that’s life.
