AIBU?

WIBU to play the French Horn at 6am tomorrow morning? (semi-joking)

Urgh. Noisy neighbours who insist on playing the same, shitty music every Friday and Saturday night very, very loudly, to the point I can hear it if I go up two storeys. Don't get me wrong, I like Bohemian Rhapsody as much as the next woman. But not every weekend, regardless of whether I want to hear it or not.

I could play a passive-aggressive game of turn the TV up to drown them out, but that keeps my toddler awake and gives me a headache.

I could go round and ask them to turn it down, but I am a pathetic and avoid situations where there might be conflict. I could send my husband around but he's not here and if he were, he's not exactly diplomatic and we have to live here alongside them going forward (both properties privately owned).

So instead, I am whinging on here and polishing up the horn. I've also got a flute but it's not loud enough......

Now, it's the Final fucking Countdown. And they're singing along.....

Do it!

Another brick in the wall. FFS. I'm trying to finish writing my masters dissertation which is due for submission on Monday afternoon.....

No , that would be wrong.

You need to lift the beater bar on your vacuum, switch it on right up against the skirting board next to the wall of their bedroom and if they like Queen so much, harness your inner Freddie and blast out "I Want to Break Free"

6am is a good time to try a little Freddie IMO.

Flanders and swan anyone? Grin

  • take up the tuba instead Wink

Go for it. Obviously, you must play the Mozart horn concerto, though I doubt these neighbours will appreciate the reference g.co/kgs/PaxqCh

(Not sure if that link is correct, hopefully should be Flanders and Swann ill wind)

AveAtqueVale · 24/03/2018 21:02

I had a similar problem recently. Also in possession of a French Horn here but decided to opt for the electric violin and an amp up against the wall instead. And let the three year old have a go. Neighbours came round pronto and a lively discussion was had. They’ve been much quieter since Grin.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/03/2018 21:02

Xpost, and I've got it as an (enjoyable) ear worm now!

GemmaB78 · 24/03/2018 21:02

Excellent suggestions - keep them coming.... I could channel my inner Freddie, no problem.

Also - loving your Pratchett user name.

Love that Flanders and Swann clip!

It’s the electric guitar next door to me. I’ve tried revenge clarinet, but it isn’t loud enough.

SmilingButClueless · 24/03/2018 21:18

You need bagpipes

Rarotonga · 24/03/2018 21:20

You should do it. Especially as the clocks go forward, so it'd be like 5am to them!

Take up the tuba instead!

brownelephant · 24/03/2018 21:24

yes, but without your hand at the funnel
some boring scales and lip fexibilities...
good luck

GemmaB78 · 24/03/2018 21:25

We also have an electric keyboard in the house. I am considering whacking up the volume to full and letting the toddler loose on it....

We'd be all right - between ds and me we have a drum kit and an E flat clarinet (like a clarinet but smaller and much more shrill).

Fortunately, we also have lovely neighbours!

YouTheCat · 24/03/2018 21:32

I feel a family jamming session coming on. You on the French Horn and the toddler on the keyboard (pipe organ or bagpipe setting).

YouTheCat · 24/03/2018 21:33

I could bring my violin. I can't actually play it that well yet but I make up for it with enthusiasm.

randomsabreuse · 24/03/2018 21:35

Do you need to do some 3rd octave flute practice, maybe even Google some 4th octave notes tomorrow? Piccolo is a very good weapon...

Third octave scales and finger exercises are my fantasy revenge in the neighbours are loud at night!

MrsMozart · 24/03/2018 22:58

I have an alto saxophone if you'd like some company.

I'm pretty shit, but it don't 'alf make a noise Grin

we have several recorders of varying sizes. I am crap at it.

GemmaB78 · 24/03/2018 23:35

Oh good - we almost have a full orchestra ;-)

They stopped about 10 mins ago. Toddler has woken up twice - usually he sleeps through. I am looking forward to that early alarm.

My neighbours do this 2am-3am every weekend. They own their house, we rent so will probably have to move because my DP works weekends. The only thing that's different is that ours sing along to Westlife at 3am.

Last weekend I got up at 7am and did the hoovering right above their bedroom, petty, but made me feel a whole lot better.
