AIBU?

AIBU reward for weight loss?

FollowYourOwnNorthStar · 24/03/2018 10:02

I am losing weight. So far I have lost 10kg/22 pounds. This is about a quarter of what I need to lose, so I’m in for a long haul.

So far I have not noticed any weight loss, or clothes fitting better etc, so I am not getting any intrinsic reward from the weight loss itself.

To encourage this, I’m wondering about a reward for each big stage - celebrating each 25% seems to be a good plan. But what kind of reward could I get? New clothes done work (no change in size yet, and I hope to go through them anyway), i’m Not really a fan of massages etc. Food is obviously not a good option at this time.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

How about a big bunch of flowers? I find they really cheer me up, and a good quality bunch will last for 3 weeks if you look after them.

Piece of jewellery?

Something for your house?

New shoes?

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend on each reward
Well done on your weight loss so far!

Every time I lost a lb I or a tenner (in coins) in a jar, then went shopping for a new wardrobe of clothes when I got to goal. Very visual way of seeing the lbs/£s stack up. Worked for me :)

First of all, well done!

Could you get your nails done? Or save the money and put it towards new clothes? Or you could buy a handbag? Or a pair of shoes?

I have lost the same amount as you and I'm having a massage when I hit 2 stone. Dsis bought me a voucher for Christmas so will save it for then.

Thanks for the suggestions. Whilst I really love flowers, I’d kinda like it to be bigger than that.

Jewellery is a good idea! I could spend the (long) time between each 10kg/22 pounds choosing a nice piece.

Thanks!

I went for a gel manicure / pedicure and had a 90min massage.

Part of the reason I got “big” was lack of self care /love so I decided my rewards would be nice things for my body

Congrats by the way and If it’s any consolation I saw no difference for the first 2 stone Shock but there was a random topping point slightly after that where I looked soooo much slimmer and all my clothes got too big

Ooh doodlejump I love that idea!
I'm due in a couple of weeks and planning a summer clothes shopping trip once I've lost the baby weight so I think I'll steal that idea to help keep me motivated.
As to rewards, maybe something beauty related? Getting your nails/hair done or treating yourself to a luxury beauty product. It all depends on what you would consider a treat I suppose iyswim.
Well done on what you've achieved so far that's brilliant!

Well done on your weight loss so far. It is clear from your message how motivated you are, it is inspiring.

I am also losing weight and had similar thoughts to yours about a reward, or added incentive. I love travelling so I put a £1 coin in a tin every day, one of those that needs a tin opener to empty. This is part of what I would have spent on chocolate or other food crap so it's not like I am missing that £1. I now have approx £180 towards flights, and I'm spending lovely time planning my adventure. Is this something that would appeal to you?

trojanpony thanks for telling me that. To be truthful I am a bit upset that there has been no noticeable difference yet. I don’t care what others notice/say, but I thought I would notice something by now, or there would be some clothes I could fit into more easily (or other that looked a bit big). Nothing at all yet. It’s why i’m looking at other things like rewards to give me motivation! I’m encouraged to hear you think there is a bit of a watershed moment around 2 stone. I’ve got another 2.7kg to go to get there, but that will encourage me.

I also like your thoughts on self care and I see that with me too. I think I should incorporate that in, maybe for 5kg goals.

Bumbles thank you. I hope you are seeing results for your efforts!

I like the idea of a money tin, but at the moment I feel like all the rewards are delayed, so I would like something to help encourage me here and now. I mean - as i’m not seeing weight loss or moving into new clothes (but instead I’m waiting for that to happen), I think I would feel like putting money away was also a delayed reward and I am just doing all this hard work for nothing! That might be a better goal in the future. (I know I have a long way to go!)

I lost 5 stone (once Grin) and same as you, I didn't even drop a dress size until well over 2 stone. But after that, you really do start ti notice.

Thanks for letting me know Danny it feels so wrong - the start is when I need it to be noticeable and the encouragement to keep going, why can’t it be noticeable at the start??? (Joking....I know why).

I’m really glad I’m getting close to this moment. Hopefully that knowledge will get me through an Easter without the delicious Cadbury Creme eggs.

FollowYourOwnNorthStar glad to hear it was helpful.

The weight can be a struggle but hang in there. I held off getting new clothes until I had the majority of the weight off.
Top tip only get things with fitted waists. They let you know pretty much immediately if you have gained anything.
I put on about 7lbs since Jan and can realllllllly tell. My clothes mean I can’t ignore it (which let’s be honest is what you want to do when you fall off the wagon 😭)
While it’s crap to have gained weight, 7lbs is much easier to manage than 4 stone. At least that’s what I tell myself 😂

Hi OP, congratulations on your weightloss. I just had to post to say thanks for the reassurance. I've lost 31lbs (Two stone 3lbs, sorry, don't know it in KG.) and haven't noticed anything too drastic yet either. The majority of my clothes still fit me fine. It's good to know that this will change!
As for a reward, how about a magazine, or new book? A nice scarf or hat/sunglasses for the hopefully approaching nice weather?
Good luck with your continued weightloss, you're doing excellent! Star

Congrats op Flowers agree with pp it takes a long time to measure weight loss so spend on other things that enhance you feeling good: haircut, mani/pedi, spa. All super encouraging and enjoyable

When I lose a stone I plan on buying the first season of ER, and then 2 stone the 2nd and so on

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies. I ended up getting myself a bottle of perfume for the 10kg/22 pounds loss, and I am going to choose a nice piece of jewellery for 20kg/44 pounds.

I hit a loss of 2 stone/28 pounds/12.7kg today. I work in metric, so I’m not rewarding myself again until 20kg, but as everyone has commented that the 2 stone moment is a bit of a watershed moment, I’m really looking forward to clothes to fitting and noticing the weight loss!

Thanks all.

Well done on the weight loss. There will be at one point you will notice the loss, it was around two half stone for me, it was so quick that my boss asked if I had been eating at all! I found it hard to keep motivated at first but when people started noticing that was all the reward I needed as that was the first time in ages I felt good about myself
