to hide my sons lies

I have a 17 year old son who for a few years was completely off the rails, he was always getting into trouble and he got expelled from high school, I was constantly at my wits end with him but then he met a nice new girlfriend and really quietened down, he started college and made new friends, I stopped worring about him so much and thought he had really grown up, that was until tonight when he told me that his ex girlfriend is pregnant with his child (he split with her nearly a year ago when he met his new girlfriend but told me tonight that he has still been sleeping with the ex behind his girlfriends back) I am glad that he confided in me but he made me promise not to tell his current girlfried but I feel like she has the right to know, she has been so good to him and is such a lovely girl, I have encouraged him to tell her the truth but he refuses point blank, I really dont know what to do, I know that he is an adult and I cant force him to tell her but I dont know how to proceed with this ?
