AIBU to think I can pack for 11 nights away with just a cabin bag? We will have a washing machine. Going to Spain. Early spring.

What would you pack? I haven't seen the cabin bag yet to know exactly what size it is.

I wouldn't be able to do it but I like a different outfit for every night plus day time clothes and different sandals.
A cabin bag would only do me for a weekend.

MyKingdomForBrie · 21/03/2018 11:26

I’d pack a a towel, a few pairs of shorts and a lot of little vest tops/shirts, two bikinis, nice sandals and a squishable sunhat. Wear jeans, a cardy and flip flops on the plane, squish in another cardy if you can (should be plenty of room!). Oh and toothbrush/hairbrush!

Then I buy toiletries in the airport. I’ve done two weeks with a cabin bag no trouble, but I don’t take things like hair dryer/straighteners/lots of shoes etc

kaytee87 · 21/03/2018 11:27

Your airline will have a rule on what size of cabin bag you're allowed so double check that

pangolina · 21/03/2018 11:28

I would. Apart from face moisturiser just buy toiletries there. Travel in your heavier/bulkier clothes and shoes.
Depending where in spain id take a pair of jeans, undies, sleepwear, a few tops, swimmers and a couple of jumpers/cardigans. If you can wash while there you might as well!

MrsCrabbyTree · 21/03/2018 11:31

I had to fly once at short notice and only took a large handbag for a week. Wore one set of clothes, took a second set and 2 spares underwear and a nightie. Washed everyday! So in my opinion a cabin bag would be easy peasy.

sunbird17 · 21/03/2018 11:31

Watch this video on packing a cabin bag - it's amazing!

OliviaBenson · 21/03/2018 11:34

No way. Also it's difficult with the limits on liquids. It's not that costly for a suitcase surely?

Fabpinky · 21/03/2018 11:35

Get one of those towels that fold up really small and are really thin... also will you be allowed a hand bag as well? Can put some stuff in that.

You could wear all your knickers on the plane? Put some things in your pockets. 😂

catbasilio · 21/03/2018 11:37

Absolutely possible, have done if for 2 weeks and planning to do it for 1 week but with bedding and towels (off to Eurocamp). That's for a standard cabin bag.

TroubledLichen · 21/03/2018 11:37

Firstly check your airline’s baggage dimensions then try to find the biggest bag possible that still meets the requirements.

If you will have a shop near where you are staying then I’d forget about packing toiletries and pick these up once you arrive (a decent hotel will also provide most things). Cut your make up bag down to the absolute essentials. Remember that all your liquids have to fit in the 1 plastic bag when going through security so don’t take too many.

Clothes wise it depends entirely on what you’re doing but I’d pack enough underwear/socks/basics for 5-6 days with the idea that I’d do a mid-week wash. A pair of comfy shoes for daytime if you’re sightseeing, maybe a dressy pair of flats for the evening. And trousers like jeans or chinos (depending on the weather) that can do a couple of wears before needing a wash, light tops that don’t take up much space like t-shirts for the day and a few dressy tops for the evening, a neutral cardigan or two plus a warmer jacket. Maybe a dress in case you go anywhere fancy? I know you’ve got washing facilities but beware of clothes that need ironing and check whether there’s an iron/ironing board (I’ve made this mistake before then spent the last half of the holiday in crumpled clothes).

donajimena · 21/03/2018 11:38

Ive done 2 weeks with a cabin bag. I wore layers at this end to fly in just two tshirts and a cardi. 4 pairs of knickers and a few outfits. The washing machine is the key factor

twer · 21/03/2018 11:41

Am currently away for four nights and had to take two large cases as I just can't whittle outfits down to essentials 😂.

I've got 7 handbags with me. Why am I like this?!

Oysterbabe · 21/03/2018 11:43

I've done it. I always pack very light though and feel like I've failed if I take something that I didn't wear. Wear your bulkiest clothes for the flight.

19lottie82 · 21/03/2018 11:43

If you have a washing machine, then yes perfectly doable.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 21/03/2018 11:46

No one need a bloody new outfit every evening.
Not even the Kardashians.

I did 2 weeks in Ibiza last year with a rucksack.
Didn't take a towel cos in a hotel.
Took travel handwash stuff.

3 bikinis
Couple loose shirts
2 x v thin loose trousers
4 t/shirts/vests
Sandals

Makeup (one foundation, one mascara, 2x eyeliners, concealer........powder doesn't count in your liquid allowance so easy to squeeze face powder/eyeshadow etc)
Deo

Anything else I bought over there.

Then wore trousers, boots, another vest, warmer jumper on the plane so didn't have to squeeze in the big/ heavy stuff.

Even had room to bring my laptop!

Was fine and stress free.....really enjoyed not waiting for luggage etc and I found a capsule wardrobe less to much less stress than loads of clothes.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 21/03/2018 11:49

Don't even need a washing machine though.....

Just handwash bikini/vest etc in sink and dry.

In Spain it'll dry really quick.

Trousers don't need washing every day unless visibly dirty/smelly.

Quick swish in sink with travel handwash stuff (Dylons is good), rinse, wring, dry.

GoldenHefalump · 21/03/2018 11:49

I couldn't do it.

A cabin bag does a 4 day long weekend for me.

The absolute last thing I want to be doing on holiday is searching for and buying all my toiletries or washing and drying clothes every few days!

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 21/03/2018 11:49

We never take more than that (each) on 2 week hols. Pack light and roll rather than fold. You'll be fine!

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 21/03/2018 11:49

Oooh meant to add 3x pairs shorts.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 21/03/2018 11:51

Took me all of 10 mins to buy extras, and a total of 10 mins every evening swishing bikinis/ shorts etc in the sink.

Would rather do that than lug massive bags of stuff I'll probably not use, and pay through the nose for the priviledge of having too many clothes and stuff.

mintbiscuit · 21/03/2018 11:52

I did 3 weeks in Spain with a rucksack. I hate suitcases!

Buy toiletries there. Sun cream at the airport.

Work out a good capsule wardrobe.

Don’t forget to pack tops that you can layer in the evening when it gets cooler.

Thin micro towel for beach.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 21/03/2018 11:53

Plus no lugging heavy bags in and out of cars/cabs/ dragging them round the airport etc.

One rucksack on my back, handsfree to help DS etc.

I couldn’t do it. I took 20kgs for 11 nights last year Blush, but I do have to take a lot of medication and lotions. I will admit, both DH and I, did pack too many clothes and we are both aware where we can cut back this year. I am panicking a bit about only having 15kgs though.

FleurDelacoeur · 21/03/2018 11:57

Yes, easy.

Wear things like jeans and hoodie/sweater to travel as they're heavier and bulky. For Spain I'd pack a long pair of light trousers, couple of pairs of shorts/skirts, three of four lighter tops, underwear, swimming costume, couple of wraps/pashmina things, pair of light shoes.

Yes you'll need to wash but with a machine that's no great hardship. Nobody needs 7 handbags on holiday, that's just ridiculous.

And yes - baggage charges are crazy. We're off to Germany for a long weekend soon and the airline wanted about £25 each way for a bag. £50 each. £100 total. That's the price of a decent meal and wine, and all because you want to take 12 pairs of shoes and three outfits a day? Madness.

INeedNewShoes · 21/03/2018 11:58

I've done it a few times. Wear good walking shoes, put sandals in the suitcase.

Use toiletries at hotel or buy miniatures from Boots once you're through security.

Items of clothing that coordinate with various outfits.
