To hope Ant

Gets the help he needs and gets his life back on track. Glad no one was hurt in the incident and hope to see him back on the TV with Dec as soon as he’s better. To not sneer and be gleeful at the implosion of another human being or so glad that a ‘national treasure’ has shown himself to be fragile.

If someone had been hurt would you still be wanting to wipe his brow?

I literally could not give a monkeys.

Why are you crying tears about a drink driver just because he is famous?

specialsubject · 21/03/2018 09:35

Hope he overcomes his addiction.

Hope he is also prosecuted and banned for what could have been a murder by another name .

He drove whilst drunk and drove like an idiot. Just because he was lucky he didnt kill any one, doesnt wipe out the fact he could have done.
Mental illness isnt an excuse for bad behaviour (i say this as someone with mh issues).
Yes I hope he gets help, but he doesnt deserve sympathy for his actions.

And if he had killed someone? If someone had posted about a drunk driver who was was not a well liked celeb hitting a car with a child in everyone who condem him. Nothing would be asked about his mental health.
He made the choice to get in that car, and I think making excuses for him is just wrong and basically saying those with mental health issues cannot make their own decision.
I hope he gets help for his issues but the face remains he is a drunk driver. Would love to know if (god forbid) anyone who had a child on here who was hit by a drunk driver with mental health issues would then feel sympathy for the driver.

I have every sympathy for addiction, and zero sympathy for drink driving. His being addicted fo alcohol is a MH issue and beyond his control, getting behind the wheel was entirely his choice.
Not like he can’t afford an Uber, he could have paid for a chauffeur if he had really wanted!

What do you do to help provide support for people with mental health issues who aren't famous, Op?

Or do you only care about posting trite stuff about slebs on the internet?

I hope he gets over his addictions.

I also hope they throw the book at him for drink driving.

I also hope that he has the good grace and dignity to not start doing self pitying interviews and that he slips out of celebrity life for the sake of the people he crashed into, they won't be wanting to see his face all over their tv.

I just so doubt that if he was Katie Price or some lad from a council estate, you wouldn't be so quick with compassion. Mental Health Issues or not, getting behind the wheel of a car under the influence is entirely your responsibility and I wouldn't expect people to be explaining it away as MHI as its offensive to people with MHI to assume alcoholism and drug addictions are just 'part of it' or because of it

Oh and my cousin is in a wheelchair after being hit by a drunk driver, I don’t give a dam if he had mental health issues or not, he should have gone to jail (he didn’t).
There is such double standards- Jamie Carragher spitting had people in their droves saying he should lose his job yet drunk driver Ant will be welcomed back to Tv with open arms!!!! Just no

HeedMove · 21/03/2018 09:40

Well I would wish anyone, regardless of who they are, with drink or drug problems could sort themselves out. So same goes for him. Couldn't care less whether hes back on tv again and he should be treated the same by the law as any other person who is a drink driver.

demirose87 · 21/03/2018 09:41

I think he should leave tv. Plenty of other new talent ready to step in his place. People won't go back to liking him the same as they after this. It is a shame but I can't see him coming back.

I don't personally care about him beyond the way I'd care about an average person on the street. But just as I'd feel about an average Joe, I do hope he gets the support he needs to recover.

It's perfectly possible to have empathy for somebody who is struggling with their mental health or an addiction and wish the best for them, while also condemning and being hardline about their actions like drink driving.

I think a lot of people lack the emotional awareness to be able to recognise that you can experience both emotions at once. Being empathetic towards him doesn't mean you condone his actions, and wanting to hold him accountable for his actions doesn't mean you don't hope he gets help and things get better for him.

I'm seeing a lot of very black and white thinking.

I think you aren't being unreasonable at all to show compassion. Addiction is such a multi-faceted, complex beast that none of us are able to make judgments in an individual case. We can all categorically state that drink driving is abhorrent, perhaps unforgivable but beyond that, you are left only with uninformed opinion.

I have found the crass statements on here about levels of income and talent baffling.

I hope that anybody battling addiction is afforded the help necessary to tackle the problem.

I couldn't give a toss.. he chose to endanger other people's lives for his illness. No excuse for that.

There was just no excuse.
They guy has millions.
Why not have a chauffeur on hand at all times if you are an alcoholic?
It's just a total no-brainer!!!

A little girl was hurt and taken to hospital wasn't she?

And now her family is being harassed by people leaving fake bad reviews for their business, laughing at their experience and potentially damaging their income.

And there's the emotional aspect to consider for the people he hit, even if they don't have physical injuries.

And the owners of the cars he damaged need to go through insurance claims now, which take months to resolve and can be stressful.

And even though they are not at fault, this will affect them when the time comes to renew their insurance.

My dd was badly injured by a driver who fell asleep. She wasn’t as lucky so I actually know far more about this issue than you lot obviously do.

I absolutkry condem his behaviour. Who doesn’t. But the glee and the pleasure at someone’s life falling apart has been hideous on here.

He will face the concequences of his actions and rightly so but for posters to ‘not give a crap’ about another human being speaks far more about them.

Condem by all means but don’t be happy about it.

Whilst I have no sympathy for drunk drivers (no fucking excuse) I also think how awful it must be to have any issues when famous. You have private problems at home and it's suddenly printed in every newspaper, on tv and all over the internet. Your missus goes out without her wedding ring and everyone and their dog is making comments on your divorce. I have to wonder how bad it must be that not only every aspect of your life is going wrong but it's all being scrutinised and publicised by the media. Maybe I would end up a complete fuck up like that idiot is.

Absolutely no sympathy here.

Well, I obviously sympathise that he has problems, but he was an arrogant tosser when he got behind the wheel of that car.

So no, I don't want to see him back presenting anything. He has destroyed his public persona.

I have no sympathy for him whatsoever and don't care if his career doesn't recover. In fact I hope it never does.
How would we even know if he is 'recovered' anyway - isn't rehab in this instance just a PR stunt?

He could have killed someone... a child, a family...

He's blown it now. Let someone else have a go now anyway.

Report
Theresasmayshoes11 · 21/03/2018 09:53

Yes he could have killed someone snd thank god he didn’t.

He made a terrible mistake. We all make terrible mistakes in life. Maybe not drink driving but other terrible mistakes.

I think the most judgey posters are probably the ones who make the most.

Anyway I wish him well and hope everyone involved is left alone and recovers.
