ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 20/03/2018 00:57

I'm posting here for traffic,

I felt ok until lunchtime Monday, then started to feel a bit tired, the tiredness by dinner time turned into exhaustion and I've vomited three times (once before dinner and twice after)...i also have had diarrhea since this evening too...my stomach is sore from the vomiting and my head feels cottonwooly and sleepy, but at the same time how do I settle myself enough to get some sleep tonight, I don't want to be awake all night, but I don't want to be vomiting in my sleep either..Blush

Why aren't you considering an out of hours doctors appointment or A&E? Call 111 and see what they say.

It's a strange question really.

My 'solution' would be to stick a bucket by the bed and try to settle down to sleep, on some propped up pillows.

Hope you feel better soon.

Presumably because she's a sensible adult, who knows that would be a massive over reaction to having the squits and getting sick a few times Confused

WorraLiberty we think alike Smile that's exactly why I'm asking here...I know that the out of hours and A+E have such long waiting times as it is, without me taking up a place for something that will likely run its course...

I had similar recently and found paracetamol really helped me feel more comfortable. Tablets wouldn't have stayed down so unless you have any soluble tablets I would suggest you do what I did and go for calpol (if you have any). 4 spoonfuls of infant calpol makes an adult dose. I hope it helps.

As pp said, bucket by the bed, well propped up and if you can't sleep, a podcast or audio book on low so you can still rest.

Hope you're much better tomorrow.

Umm. I had ambulance to pick me up yesterday with vomiting and severe abdominal pain. It passed while waiting for blood, urine and X-ray results in A&E, but 111 and paramedics treated it seriously enough to actually take me to the hospital and send an ambulance in the first place.
I called 111 to get OOH appointment because I’ve never had pain like that before and vomiting was actually caused by pain. Paracetamol didn’t even touch the pain. I also never vomit. Even when everyone around me has D&V, I only have the shits.

OP, try to speak to 111. They might be able to recommend something for it. Or actually give you an appointment for OOH.

I would just tuck yourself up, bucket and baby wipes handy and a low light on, maybe the radio and try and doze
Tiny sips of water, literally a teaspoon at a time
I had norovirus once, and I remember someone saying to me "oh it was awful, I had diarrhoea about ten times". I was thinking "ten?! Try 100+ in a day!"
Ended up on the floor of the bathroom with a pillow Grin

Ollivander84 oh god, that sounds rough, how long did that last?

I have a bottle of water, a kitchen roll, wet wipes, a bucket next to me...plus a plastic bag on me just incase I vomit before making it to the bucket (so I can vomit in there rather than over meBlush)

I'm starving because my stomach is empty, but I darent eat anything yet

72hrs. Only vomited twice but had around 300 bouts of diarrhoea Blush
On day 4 I woke up feeling not sick and then realised I was very hot, cold, hot.... Doctor came out and I had flu... two weeks then of hallucinating fever and flu Grin you couldn't have made it up!
On the plus side the weight loss was great Grin
I wouldn't eat yet, just keep sipping water. If you feel better tomorrow then some dry toast or crackers

I’m absolutely fine today. Thank you. Smile

Still have no idea wtf it was though. Felt like labour. I am not pregnant and have a coil. Thought it could have been appendicitis, but no. Not ectopic pregnancy. Not constipated. No clue what so ever.

They did gave me an injection of anti sickness medicine. And prescribed some more for after. Didn’t need them though.

Anyway, all good now.

I hope you’ll get some sleep tonight. It’s rubbish they don’t have 111 in your area.

Ollivander84 300 bouts of diarrhea? Oh my goodness, you must havejave just lived in your bathroom over those 72 hours, that sounds rough...what kind of things did you hallucinate? (That would scare me Blush)

It's funny you mention you had a fever, I have felt so hot that my hair was soaking with sweat and my skin was wet, yet when I checked the weather temperature here is minus 1C with a feels like temperature of minus 7C (that's from AccuWeatherGrin)...

If I have a stomach bug I sleep in the recovery position. Just incase I vomit in my sleep. Try and mediate

I did, luckily I have an en suite so it's about 6 steps from bed to toilet, mostly was exhausted. Hallucinating was mainly imagining things like my horse was outside my bedroom window or my friends Confused not scary, actually more comforting!
The doctor came out because I couldn't get out of bed and the diarrhoea had been so bad, took one look at me saying "the duvet hurts my skinnnnnnnn" and went "yeah, flu. Stay in bed" 😂😂😂

DeadMorose our out of hours service is a bit sketchy too...due to cut backs they have amalgamated three cities to use the same out of hours place, and they run a time table...E.g between such and such time it will be at my town, then after that time it switches to being held in one of the other cities ,

Id camp in the bathroom
Sorry I know it's grim but that way, if you doze off you don't have to get far if you do need the loo again
I listened to the radio when this happened to me. You can doze a bit but get a sense of normality from radio.
Hope you feel better ASAP but remember the 48 hour rule as well. You'll probably need to keep way from work for that time anyway.

I think I said hello to her too. I vaguely remember thinking I should get her a carrot but it was too much effort.
My dad did a HmmConfused face when I told him I needed carrots and paracetamol
On an illness rating it was 9/10 would not recommend

Sorry to hear you're feeling so bad, but glad to hear that you're so well organised to manage this illness already. Do you have anyone who;d call in to help if necessary? I'm thinking if you're feeling hungry it would be a great help to have someone to bring you a small snack.

I now have some anti-nausea tablets which are very useful, but don;t know if they're prescription-only (Domperidone). G.P told me I should go to hospital if I had another nausea bout, as I'd be dehydrated after the vomiting and would need a drip. As I'd rather be at home, I bought some hydrating drink from Lucozade and remembered friend's advice to have a packet of crisps to replace the lost salt, but not been ill recently.

I do hope you manage to sleep tonight, and remember to keep sipping water if you can keep it down. 'Night.

During really bad flare ups I’ve slept in the bath with a sheet and a folded up towel for a pillow, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Put a bucket by the bed and if your not too cold then maybe sleep under a sheet rather than duvet, in case you don’t make the bucket.
I usually put the tv on low with the brightness down, or listen too a podcast/ audiobook to take my mind off feeling sick as well.

I second the calpol, also small sips of cooled boiled water - both tips I gained from MN which worked a treat. Hope you're getting some kip.

We I'm wide awake tonight. I'm weirdly stressing about being signed off from work with a broken arm and how long to stay off and how to return - because that's important at 3 am!

Being hungry is a good sign, try something plain and dry in the morning.

ConfusedConfusedConfused I'm amazed someone suggested a and e ~ no wonder the nhs is struggling!
