To feel a bit sorry for Dec

I've not read a huge amount about the Ant Mcpartlin situation but it's clear things are going down the pooper pretty quick.

With all of this going on, does anyone else feel a bit sorry for Dec? His mate has royally fucked up and therefore he probably will find it difficult to find work. They've been a double act since the 80s so is anyone likely to hire Dec on his own?

It's like the Lost Prophets after it was found out that Watkins was a paedophile. I'm sure Dec's hardly strapped for cash but still.

I’m not sure an alcoholic colleague is quite the same as one whose a paedophile

JennyJames · 19/03/2018 21:52

Well, seeing as Ant is worth a reported £60m and therefore it’s not unreasonable to assume Dec is worth similar then... nope. Can’t muster all that much sympathy to be honest.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2018 21:52

I think he will be ok TBH.

Canyoudomegreaterharm · 19/03/2018 21:52

I was saying this to DH earlier, do you think they have any type of insurance? Like dancers insuring their feet, do you think they insure themselves against their partner not being able to perform?

Ant has affected both their earnings potentially hasn’t he with this, but it’s not Dec’s fault

MorningsEleven · 19/03/2018 21:52

Being back Cat Deeley.

therockinggazelle · 19/03/2018 21:53

Nah I'm sure they are both loaded probably don't need to work again

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2018 21:53

Cat and Dec. Grin But she's busy having babies at the moment.

VladmirsPoutine · 19/03/2018 21:53

I think he might just manage to pull through somehow. I doubt he'll be needing food banks or universal credit.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2018 21:55

Dec can have a nice long career break, perhaps he secretly quite fancied one. Maybe he and his wife want to start a family or have lots of holidays?

Littlelambpeep · 19/03/2018 21:55

They are insured against each other. Dec seems very sensible. I Imagine he is not that shocked. He knows ant as much as his mother does I'm sure. He may have seen this coming.

Do I feel for him ? Yes. But after grenfell and all the tragedies over the past year. minor

Terramirabilis · 19/03/2018 21:55

I agree, OP. It's not his fault what his friend/business partner has done. While he may not need the cash, that's presumably been true for quite some time if Ant is worth 60 million. But for performers it's not only about that - he'd be losing something if he couldn't get work because Ant is persona non grata, even aside from the money.

Bobbiepin · 19/03/2018 21:57

@palegreenstars you're totally right, shit comparison in terms of offence but the impact is the same.

Definitely bring back Cat Deely! I know he's hardly gonna be queuing up for the dole but the man's career is pretty much over because of soemone else's actions. If that had happened to me, I'd be pissed!

ScandiGirl10 · 19/03/2018 21:57

I won’t lose sleep over it.

Bobbiepin · 19/03/2018 21:58

@sparkingbrook I may be mistaken but was it Dec and his wife that had infertility struggles and couldn't conceive?

OP posts:
confusedhelpme · 19/03/2018 21:59

@Bobbiepin not that was Ant

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2018 22:00

I know nothing of Dec and his wife's fertility but I believe the struggles Ant and Lisa have had in their bid to start a family have been well documented.

Redglitter · 19/03/2018 22:00

I'm sure his £60 million will help him through the dark days of unemployment if it comes to it. It's not like he's going to have to worry about paying his mortgage

Having said that loads of other celebs have had addiction problems and others been done for drunk driving without them losing their careers

MorningsEleven · 19/03/2018 22:01

Or he could have a guest co-host every week like when Angus Deayton got dropped from HIGNFY. I'd quite like him with Sandi Toksvig - easy work for the cameramen!

Bobbiepin · 19/03/2018 22:04

@redglitter not many of them injure toddlers in the process.

Gotta say I'm a little bit surprised at the focus on the money. I thought more about the years of work into a career in a difficult industry that's gone to pot through no fault of his own.

"I thought more about the years of work into a career in a difficult industry that's gone to pot through no fault of his own."

And his best friend! Gosh... Where is the compassion?! I feel terrible for him

SilverySurfer · 19/03/2018 22:08

If this means they are off my tv screen I will send up a cheer and no I don't feel sorry for a multi-millionaire with limited talent.

PutUpWithRain · 19/03/2018 22:08

I get what you meant, OP - no, he's not going to struggle financially, but it must be gutting to face up to your career being effectively strangled when you've done nothing wrong. Their entire careers have been based around them being a partnership, so Dec on his own is never going to do as well, if he even wants to.

I feel sorry for him in the sense that he might have to have to take early retirement from something he obviously loves doing, or at least take a break from it, until Ant's sorted out. But I'm sure the money will cushion some of that unhappiness Wink

Oh he (or Ant for that matter) isn’t going to starve, but potentially he’s going to be retired in his early forties through some else’s actions rather than his choice.

I’m sure no ones going to be starting a fundraiser for him!

TheQueenOfWands · 19/03/2018 22:09

Meh.

It's been years since they got Ready To Rumble.

Time to develop a personality each. Can't he healthy to merge yourself with another person for so long.

ShinyMe · 19/03/2018 22:09

That's the risk of being in a double act though isn't it? If something happens to one of you, the other one risks losing a career. I remember wondering how Les Dennis would get on when Dustin Gee died - he seems to have done ok though...

I'm sure Dec will be just fine. I won't complain if they're on telly less often.
