Am I the only person not to mind the rain?

I've read so many threads recently about people wanting to move abroad to live a more outdoorsy lifestyle. Folk who envisage moving to America or Oz and suddenly becoming the sort of person who spends their day's hiking, surfing and doing yoga on the beach...

AIBU to think, if you spend most of your time indoors in the UK, you are unlikely to suddenly become an outdoor-loving sports fanatic because you've moved halfway around the World.

Also, why, if you want to live a more outdoor lifestyle, don't you just do it? Rain doesn't hurt and you only need a warm coat to survive almost everything the UK weather has to throw at us.

I don’t mind rain really, quite like hiding indoors or getting all wrapped up in waterproofs. I DO mind constant grey miserable nothing sort of weather though, that’s worse than rain in my book. I’m not good in heat/sun but I do like a bit of sunlight, I do find it improves my mood.

I hate rain because I wear glasses, and no style of coat, jacket or hat protects my face from the relentless, driving rain that you get on the coast.

I can't wear contacts due to my astigmatism and prescription so unless I want to wander around in a blind stumble, I stay indoors as much as possible when it's wet!

I hate the rain, or as pp said, hate the continual grey weather we’ve had lately. I despise the school run in the rain, wet jeans, wet coat, no umbrella because of the pushchair. It’s grim.

I love walking in the rain by myself with happy tunes blaring In my earphones.

I hate trudging along in the rain with the kids because it takes so bloody long as they jump in every single puddle!

Although I do also have the glasses issue, I can't wear contacts due to my high prescription and having puddle vision or steamy lenses is not good!

feel sorry for people who sell up and move to Spain only to find that living in a hot country all summer can be a pain in the arse. Not like your two weeks hols in Majorca.

Prefer to run in the rain than in warm sun. Don't mind a hike in the rain.
Gotta admit that walking on an errand in cold driving rain with my whole body hunched against it is pretty grim.

No you're not alone. I'm very outdoorsy and live by "there's no bad weather, just the wrong clothes" and I am a big fan of extreme weather and try to get out in it. I don't care what others do but do get a bit eye rolly at "you're not going out in this are you?! Oh you are brave!"

I mostly like rain and it makes my hair go really nicely curly! The only times
I dislike it when it rains in the summer and we've booked a beach holiday or something. We had a week in a caravan with four DC including an 18 month old and a newborn. It rained pretty much the whole time, I remember eating fish and chips on a bench near the sea whilst breast feeding as the rain blasted us from all angles and crying!

I love the rain but I'm with pp who said the enjoyment is far less whilst trudging along with the kids jumping in every puddle when you are trying to get somewhere.

I love being out in pretty much any weather. I don't love having to try to convince my child to go out in the rain and wind. She's been off sick today and so I've been stuck in all day.

A bit more brightness, and more confidence that we will get some semblance of summer would be rather wonderful. In the north east of England last summer we had 3 days where the temperature exceeded 24 c.

I like the rain. When people complain about it I always tell them I like a rainy day and they look at me like I'm crazy.
My mil seems to find me particularly infuriating!

Don’t mind the rain either. Some people seems to be scared of it. Ie. Can’t walk to,the shops because it’s raining.

I hate rain. I hate the feeling of being wet, I hate having wet hair, wet skin, it’s cold and I hate shoes squealching.

But then I wouldn’t claim to be outdoorsy.

I do find so many people behave like they are going to melt in the rain and I can't help but roll my eyes. Its water, its not going to hurt you. Just wear the appropriate clothes and you will be fine!
I agree it's annoying if you wear glasses (hence my living in contact lenses) but a solid brimmed hat really helps.
My MIL has a shitfit every time I mention walking the dog in the rain (and taking DS with me), I don't think she understands that dogs don't give a fuck what the weather is doing, they will still need walked!

I love the rain! Having spent the first half of my life in sunny and very dry Spain, the constant rain here in the UK felt such a wonderful novelty and I never get tired of watching it, listening to it from bed or throwing open all the windows to breathe it in on a dark morning. I even have rain sounds apps on my phone and use them to soothe me to sleep. It's just beautiful. It exhilarates me to walk in it. And when I get it on my hair it goes all curly and pretty haha. Not frizzy just wild. What's not to love!! 😂😂

I love the rain and snow and enjoy going for walks out in it. Even as a child, I remember playing outside with my toys in the rain.

Some people are a bit pathetic about going out in the rain but if you wear the appropriate clothing, you should be fine.

Summer is my least favourite season. I'm an autumn/winter girl.

Nope. Not a fan. I do have the right clothes for wet weather, but in the UK rain is usually accompanied by cold temperatures. I hate being cold and wet. I hate driving on the motorway in rain as the spray from lorries makes it difficult. And as a glasses wearer being out in the rain is a PITA.

Warm soft rain is fine, tepid hard rain bouncing off pavements during a thunderstorm is amazing.
Rain we get in Scotland comes from the side rather than the top and stings the face with cold.

When abroad I live outdoors- when at home I stay indoors in harsh weather.
What's more seems most people agree.
You rarely see people walking on the beach- apart from dog walkers hurrying to get back home again when weather is bad.

I think you are misunderstanding what they mean op. They mean having barbecues, sitting outside ar restaurants and going to the beach rather than hiking.

Hiking in the rain is actually fairly miserable ime because it affects visibility so while it's true that we don't dissolve it takes quite a bit away from the experience. It also depends how cold it is - rain at 2c if you are out on your bike does not make for a pleasant experience.

I agree Peerie. I've never ever been able to understand the physics of true horizontal rain either.
