AIBU?

Aibu to be terrified even though I’ve done this before?

So tomorrow morning at 11 I have to go into the hospital to be induced at 39 weeks due to deceleration of his heart rate on Friday (I’d just dropped by blood pressure after having blood taken so probably that)

I have a 6 year old. I’ve done this before.

But I’m sitting here in tears, crying at every single little thing because I’m scared. Because I have no control over what happens next. Because I have to have the pessary and then wait 6 hours before having another one, and I passionately don’t want a c-section and a lot of inductions end in C-Sections.

My husband works nights so it’s just me and the 6 year old here at the moment. Not many people know I’m being induced because I don’t want people messaging to ask if he’s here yet.

So my AIBU is to ask for a handhold and some positive stories?

Here's one for you. You'll soon have a lovely little baby. You'll get to see the relationship between your children grow and develop. You might end up with a section but you know what its honestly not that bad. And it's a day or two of discomfort. If you ask me it's totally worth it however it ends up happening.
I've done it both ways... induction and section vs natural delivery with no pain relief.
To be honest neither way matters to me now. It is what it is... Try not to worry x

Of course you are not unreasonable. It's an emotional time. I have three close friends who had inductions. All normal vaginal deliveries. One even used the birthing pool which I didn't think was allowed. It may sometimes end in c section but it doesn't have to.

However having a c section is not the end of the world either. We put so much pressure on ourselves to have the ' perfect' labour and birth and really that isn't what matters at all. It's what we do with the subsequent 18 yrs that matters. Just think by this time next week you will have your beautiful new baby and will have given your other child the gift of a sibling.

You can definitely have a handhold Flowers

My induction ended with an emergency c section, but because baby was stuck. He wouldn't have come out naturally no matter what I did. Sometimes it's just nature and there's nothing you can do.

My friend on the other hand went in for her induction and was home the next day. Her first pessary worked and she had her baby girl five hours later, zero complications. I was very jealous at the time!

Just remember even if it doesn't go how you hope, that if its the safest way for baby to come out in the end then it has to be done and it's no fault of your own. Hope all goes well OP.

I had counselling while pregnant with DC2 as I was still bearing the emotional scars of my first induction. Talking about my fears and concerns, knowing for sure due to factors in pregnancy that I’d be induced again, really helped.

My second induction was a long drawn out affair, but once it got started and once active labour began I found out that it is true that a second labour is easier. My body do know what it was doing, I was not as scared of the contractions or the pushing, and I took the drugs and the gas and air because I knew they would help. It was on the whole a much more positive experience and worlds away from all my fears and concerns.

Labour is hard. Induction certainly isn’t easy. But you’ve laboured before, you know you can absolutely do it, and you are so much more strong than you think Flowers

Flowers I've had three inductions and zero c sections. I was nervous before each but tried to focus on the fact that regardless of the delivery method, my baby would be in my arms soon.

I don’t remember feeling like this last time. It went ok! I was home the next day after a vaginal delivery. But this time I just feel like it’s all going to go wrong and I’m going to have no control over it.

I’ve only felt like this since they booked the induction on Friday and the fear is just getting worse. I can’t do anything without crying. And I’m normally strong and sensible!

I was terrified before my induction (not helped by the numerous induction scare stories I’d read), I was sobbing going into the hospital but it was actually as good an experience as it could have been - no complications, vaginal birth. It will be ok, not what you hoped for but the outcome will still be a gorgeous baby. In a few days time, it will just be a memory. Easy for me to say but try to relax and take care of yourself

Did you give birth naturally first time OP? If so then I think your less likely to end in a section as your body is more likely to know what to do (so I have heard).

I had a section following an induction. The c-section wasn’t too bad.
My SIL recently had her second c-section and was back in heels within a couple of weeks (although she is quite head strong and has a very head strong 1st born so this definitely isn’t the norm)

I was induced with my second child, no interventions required and all pretty damn quick! Good luck Flowers

I had a friend who had an induction and it was uneventful and a vaginal birth.

I had an emergency section and it was fine. I felt really well informed and confident with the surgical team and recovered really quickly.

And the baby will be here soon!

ThanksThanks

Thank you all. I just wish I could shake this feeling and get a good nights sleep. I don’t want to be walking in Stressed and upset tomorrow.

I know that even if I turned down the induction that I’d still have to go through the birth process. I don’t know why it feels worse knowing when it’s going to start!

Flowers

I had an induction which ended in an emergency c section. Again baby was stuck so would never have come out, odds are we both wouldn't have made it.

You'll be in the best place for them to care for you and baby. Remember that xx

I had an induction with my second... hard the pessaries which didn't do much to be honest, once they worked enough they were able to break my waters. Once my waters broke baby was here in 90 mins with only has and air. My first indent naturally, was about 18 hours in labour and had every bit of pain relief going. So definitely preferred my induction, although I understand your fear... I was in tears going in to be induced, having to leave my older one etc... but once I had that baby in my arms I quickly forgot how I was feeling before hand! You'll he Fine!

My DS was induced. He's now a happy healthy teenager. Wishing you lots of luck for tomorrow; don't forget a cheery, easy-reading book or magazine and some snacks.

I had an induction that ended in an emergency c-section. I would also have said beforehand that I passionately did not want a c-section - I had wanted a birthing pool in the mid-wife led centre! However, the c-section recovery was so much easier than I'd been led to believe. Hopefully you won't have to have one, but if you do, it'll be just fine :)

My second was induced. Start to delivery the entire process took 5 hours, with just gas and air. It would have been much quicker if he hadn't been brow presentation which slowed thing down. It was about as good a birthing experience as anyone could hope for.

Both my dc were induction natural borns. Son was 9 hours and Dd was 2 so and went home next morning. Almost went home the same night with my DD all ready to let us go then decided her sugar lever was a tad high and changed their minds but was out by midday.
Just think it will all be worth it in the end. I think it’s better being induced as it’s more controlled and I hate losing grasp of a situation.

I went in for a c-section due to breach to be told she had wiggled back to head down but because she was small 5.3 Lb they induced me a week later first failed pessasary then by the drip. It took 12 hrs but nothing really happened until midnight and before I knew it was 4 am and she was born. Yes it was no fun being on a drip and with the NHS stretched you may even end up in there for longer so you might need a plan I ended up in hospital for 5 days! Two days for pessasary one day waiting for a slot to open to be induced via drip then two days in hospital although last day was mostly waiting to be discharged

I have no experience of induction so I can't help you there but I had two emergency sections and had great recoveries after them. I wish you the very best of luck and looking forward to your update when you have good news.

I had gas and air and oralmorph, my fear was that I would need a epidural but luckily I didn't feel like I was in enough pain to need one.

My first was born four months ago after induction at 38 weeks. Had the epidural which was incredible. The delivery was hard bloody work and took a while but the second baby always comes quicker most of the time anyway. Good luck. Thanks

I had an epidural last time, he was back to back and the pain was awful. I was up and about later that night though.

It’s just trying to shake this fear and I can’t.
I’ve got a fab friend that’s had 3 and has promised to be by my side the whole time, and my husband will be around if I need him.

I can’t even put into words what I’m so scared of!

I had 2 planned inductions for medical reasons.

First was terrible.

Second was great. Once things got going I felt in control, only had gas and air. Waters broken at breakfast, baby arrived for lunch.

We have a 5 year gap. Really like having a bigger gap. DDs adore each other.

I’ve had no inductions but I had my second by c section and it was so much better than my first vaginal delivery , I was even out of hospital quicker . Best wishes for tomorrow .

I was hysterical crying the day before I got induced and it was my 2nd, I was terrified it was all going to go wrong.
And do you know what, it was far easier than the first time round and they popped me on the drip, ramped it up and it took about 5 hours from start to finish.
Giving birth is scary and it blooming hurts, its normal to feel the way you do x
