I ordered some flowers for my mum to be delivered today. I have got an email at 4pm saying they will be unable to deliver, have cancelled my order and given me £10 goodwill Angry
AIBU that they shouldn’t have been taken by surprise it Mother’s Day?

M & S did this on my birthday, but my husband didn't get any goodwill gesture Sad

Waitrose, last Mother's Day ran out of complimentary chocolates, to go with my flowers,
but this time got a partial refund Shock

Think they are all as bad really!!!

Flowers for you and your mum x

This happened to me about 5 years ago! So so annoying- and I didn’t get any goodwill at all. Nowadays I get my dad to buy her some from me so I know she will get them on the day. Appalling customer service.

Hey, at least you have been told they aren't there. Mine were supposed to arrive yesterday, nothing from the florist, but nothing with Mum either Angry

4pm is ridiculous, it looks like they waited for all the other shops to close!

£10 goodwill is not enough, and I hope they haven't taken the money from your account in the first place.

What!?! That's utterly rubbish. They can't possibly have been surprised by volume of Mother's Day orders! Very poor customer service indeed. I used Flying Flowers for my mum - great communication, arrived as expected and my mum is thrilled with them. I'll definitely use again.

That's really shit.

Last year I sent a bereaved friend some M&S flowers. She received an M&S desk instead. Thanks, Yodel Hmm

4pm is shit. I've just been to a nearby m&s there were lots of flowers left. They should do whatever they could to fulfil the order.

£10 goes no where near the disappointment and I'd be annoyed they added such a shit value to it.

I’m still awaiting a gift from Notonthehighstreet which was despatched on the 7th, apparently, and ordered way before that.

DD is mortified. Not the first time it has happened either.

Honestly, Christmas, valentine’s, Mother’s Day etc, why are these companies always so suddenly overwhelmed? Guess they have no staff after ‘cutting back’. Pfff!

I am truly sorry your flowers didn't appear that is such a shame when you took the trouble and expense to organise it for your Mum.
Lots of the independent florists have all but disappeared because supermarkets and online companies got greedy and took over that business at that time of the year. Supermarkets like Aldi sell their flowers at a loss just so they can grab the business (normally I am a fan but having worked for a florist and set a flower shop up of my own I dislike them because of this - but this is also why our dairy farms have all but disappeared - I could go on and I often do....)
Next time use your local florist or get your Dad to go to your local florist (if there still is one) If they are any good they will go over and above to make sure they fulfill every order and you will have helped someone local stay in a job they love. If we all just "point and click" whenever we want something, one day we will look out of the window and there will just be a huge Amazon warehouse and nothing else. Then everyone will complain. Just sayin....

Use Plants4Presents instead. I love them - they last so much longer than a bunch of cut flowers, for a similar price. And they are really reliable IME :)

That's really a disgrace. No wonder they are in difficulty and closing stores. I would have expected better. And a measly £10 compensation.

They annoy me because I have a Sparks card and they inundate me with junk and then tell me that I can't use the discounts in the local store because it's at a petrol station, I've cut my card up now as it's pointless.

A whole desk?

A whole desk. Flatpacked, admittedly.

Her flatmates took delivery so had no reason to send it away. She was most puzzled when she came home and found it in her room - especially with a note inside telling her how sorry we were for her loss.

Agree totally with Monkee4

When it comes to sending flowers, I always google the area where the person lives and pick a local florist. You can usually phone the florist or order direct from their website. Have never been disappointed.

I normally use a local florist, but DS ordered my flowers from Serenata (?) around 5 years ago.

Not only did they not deliver, they couldn't have given a toss. They gave DS the total run-around, eventually refunding him, but no goodwill gesture.

I wouldn't use Serenata if the were the last flower supplier standing!

I'm sure your Mum will understand - disappointing for you both though.

Please remove my thread MN!

@Sara107 it was such a ludicrous mix-up that fortunately she saw the funny side but it was still monumentally shit on M&S's part!

I would send a strongly worded letter saying how disappointed you and your mum are and the £10 is nothing compared to the way you both feel.

My mums flowers from M&S arrived but they were all closed. Hopefully they will be pretty when they finally open.

I always used the local florist but it closed down and being a remote village there aren’t any other options that deliver there.

I don’t want to send plants as my mum is very anti-clutter.

Report
Bluelady · 11/03/2018 17:46

They should refund you all your money. They've broken the contract.

Report
Shadow666 · 11/03/2018 17:50

I assume they got a full refund plus 10 pounds goodwill.
