AIBU?

AIBU to to think there is no future in my job?

Name changed and cannot go into great detail or I will out myself.

Been employed for 5 years doing a job I love with a really nice boss. Management got an agency in who have done a review of our department. Part of that review involved getting detailed plan of what we intend to do going forward.

Agency returned with our ideas but recommended they could do them better so my boss was made redundant.

I have the choice to stay, am encouraged to stay because without my boss they have no local knowlege. I feel they have all acted appallingly but cannot detail (would out me). Also once they have my local knowledge why will they need me anymore?

I do not need to work due to circumstances, I worked because I loved it.

I am torn as to what I do...

Leave and find something else if you don't need to work.

What sort of job is this?

Sounds sneaky and underhand. I'd move on

Where did your boss go? Could you go into business with her or see if there's a vacancy wherever she went?

Give it a try. At least that way if you are made redundant eventually you will get a payout.

Have a look to see what's about, even apply, many employers don't ask for references until you are going to be offered the job.

Look for a new job.

Stay if you need to for financial reasons, but I’d start aggressively job hunting.
I’d also be spectacularly unhelpful in a passive aggressive way. (So do exactly what they ask for but not an iota more and then say oh I didn’t know you wanted too)

If it’s BCG or similar who they brought in I’d run for the hills they are destroying brands left right and centre IMO...

More responsibility on the same pay and the company had shown themselves to "act appallingly" and have little regard for staff welfare. I would leave tbh. If you don't need to work then I'm not sure why you would stay ( not trying to be goady! Genuinely, is there a benefit to staying?)

@Birdsgottafly I don't need a reference as my old boss would give me one.

I’d be polishing up your CV and looking for a new job. Unless potential redundancy pay off is significant, I wouldn’t worry about this. Better to look after yourself, leave for something better and do it on your terms.

Do not for a second think you’ll be leaving them in the lurch. There is no loyalty from employers these days. The fact they are keeping you on at the same pay but with more responsibilities speaks volumes.

@Masonbee I think you have hit the nail on the head I really can't see a benefit to staying I guess I just need to sound that out. My DH will support me no matter what he's fab. Not many people I can discuss it with which is why I wanted some honest mumsnet feedback.

@MachineBee redundancy would be 1 months pay so no big pay out to miss out on.

It is always easier to get a new job when you are already in employment. I would look for new jobs but not leave yet.

Go. This stuff nearly always fails. Don't get caught up in trying to make it work.

If you don't need the job I would leave or stay while you job hunt.

It's just so sad that staff are just a commodity now if I hear one more time, "we have to take the people out of it" They wouldn't be where they are now without the "people"...Angry

Pretty much the same thing happened to me....unfortunately it's common practice, especially with agencies, so this really won't be as outing as you think.

I took voluntary redundancy, as it was offered. I took their money and made it clear (professionally) what I thought of them.

I'm now unemployed and job hunting, so you might not want to use me as an example, but it was most definitely worth it. I'm lucky that I'm able to be a SAHM in the meantime.

I really didn't want to work for those exploitative bastards if there was any other option. Don't regret my choice for a minute.

Those agencies are great...

DH used to work for a small multi national company, a really niche industry. It was family owned with a very good international reputation. Son took over and brought in an agency to streamline the company.

The agencies take a % of monies saved as well as a bonus for hitting their deadlines, over and above their consultancy fees, so they are very motivated to make cuts. This one made BIG promises. They laid off ALL of the people who worked in DHs department. The resultant savings in the wages dept meant they hit their targets, got paid and went away happy.

But DHs department was the one that made and installed the goods the company sold! So they were left with all admin, managers etc and no productive workforce! They were forced to head hunt them all back in again! But the company went bust due to having had to pay fines for late completion of works - because the men who did that work had been laid off!

I know, it sounds ludicrous, but it made a lot of industry headlines at the time. Such agencies such be made illegal, they are a sign that management has no idea what it is doing and often sounds the death knell!

I'd stay. Look for other work. Find it. Then leave.

I thought that companies nowadays we're wise to these companies but it seems not. If you try to point out the basic flaws in what they are saying you are labelled as negative. You cannot win.

You don’t have to work, which puts you in a position of great strength.

All you need to think about is what you want to do & no one can answer that for you.

My thoughts, for what they're worth...yes, they’ve been arseholes, but you loved the job, you might still love the job, so why not wait and see? If you find you hate it, leave. If you find you love it, ask for more money to go with the greater responsibility. It’s a win/win really...you’re choosing between two good options, not two bad options.
