AIBU?

To remove this stupid, immature, ugly tattoo myself.

I got a tattoo when I was 17 - a standard transfer one, loads and loads of people got it at that time - yes, a stupid dolphin. It is behind my hip and I can't really see it, DH doesn't care. My kids both think its stupid and ugly. I hate it. I don't know why my hatred for it has grown so much. I love dolphins, wildlife, all animals but this fucking tattoo..... I really don't want it there when we go abroad for the first time in 4 years this summer.

I went for laser removal (only place within 50 miles of here) and the man was incredibly creepy so I left. It will apparently take a minimum of 8 sessions at £50 each - WTF?! This fucking tattoo cost £10 and is only 1x2.5 cm in size! WIBU to just numb it and sand it off with DH Dremel whilst everyone is out. Yes, it will hurt like a bastard but I want it gone and that would do it.

Does anyone have a better idea?

Go to a different laser removal place. Don't try to remove it yourself Shock

What about covering it with a new tattoo. Not ideal if you've gone off the idea of tattoos in general, but better to have one you actually like?

I opted for a cover-up for my shit tattoo. However that involved getting a larger piece- I have a number of tattoos so it wasnt an issue for me.

Laser is extremely expensive and yes it costs a lot even for a £10 tattoo

Get it covered up with a nicer tattoo, it’ll be cheaper

I think you will be left with an ugly scar and probably stitches if you do that....

Laser removal is known to be loads more than the tattoo costs and would also leave you with a slight dolphin shaped scar.

Getting it tattooed over or just leaving it be would be the best options i think

Just get it covered up man! Don’t sand it off!! Grin

If you do go for a cover up remember you get what you pay for. You will on average be looking at a longish waiting list and a price or approximately £70ph for a good artist.

God no I wouldn't be sanding it off!!! The risk for infection would be immense. Plus you'd end up with quite a big scar I'd think, at least with laser you're not going to be scarred. Have you looked on groupon?

I predict tattoo removal will be big business soon, when everyone regrets their permanent black splodges, sleeves and tribal bands.

Keep looking elsewhere.

You cant seriously expect anyone to agree with your post. Find a female laser removal or tattoo artist, and google Eraze non laser tattoo removal.

OMG you're joking right?!! Shock That would leave you with hideous scarring and you risk infection, both of which would just remind you of the crappy tattoo anyway!

There's amazing foundations around these days which completely cover tattoos - you could apply this as part of your daily routine.
OR
You could have it covered up with a beautiful tattoo? I don't know where you are in the country but my friends run a studio in Gloucester where they'd be happy to discuss designs with you.

Whatever you do, please step away from the Dremel!!!

FFS, don't approach Tattoo Fixers. What is wrong with people?

Go get a small cover up. From a reputable local place. Get a bespoke design, not one off a list where you pick by number. It'll be cheaper, heal faster and be more effective than a removal job.

No way to sanding it off Shock
Either get a cover up or go to a reputable company to get it lasered!

Please do not even start with the sandpaper!! It will hurt and you may end up with scarring that looks worse than the tattoo you want to remove!
I echo the thought of others. Try other laser removal clinics. You should never have a procedure done by someone you find creepy. You need to have trust in anyone you hand your personal care to.
Failing that, approach a recommended tattoo artist to discuss and design a personal cover up.
I've seen some beautiful cover up tatts in my time and there's always been a story behind it!

(The Dremel thing was a joke, right?!)

It's got fuck all to do with your kids. Is this feeling about your tattoo coming from you alone or are you influenced by other people? Don't do anything at all to yourself, please take it from someone who tried to remove unsightly bumps from her skin with wool wire. It was a stupid thing to do and I quite seriously hurt myself. A cover up is a good idea IF as a pp said the idea of tattoos doesn't repulse you.

OwtFerNowt · 23/02/2018 11:21

Have your kids picked up on your hatred of it? Because I’m quite shocked that they told you they think it’s ugly and stupid.

If you wouldn’t get a tattoo now, then don’t get a new one to cover it up. It doesn’t sound offensive and is in a fairly discreet area. Can you try to accept it as part of your life story? Did it make you happy at the time?

Report
Soubriquet · 23/02/2018 11:22

Jeez don't sand it off!! You will do permanent damage to your skin.

Either pay for a cover up or pay for proper laser removal.

I've got two tattoos and I love them. One is a little childish really but I still like it, I embrace what I did. No point regretting something that isn't easily changed

Tattoo Fixers - OMG Grin I could get my whole body done as a sugar skull with a sail boat on my face and a compass on my neck. OMG! No.

My kids aren't rude they are very very funny. DS was watching the news during the Brexit election and turned to me and deadpanned "prettttyyyyy kwl eh mum? having the same tat as Sam Cam' - quite brilliant.

I am not having a cover up. I don't care about a scar or ugly mark - just want the fucking thing gone.

Thanks for all your kindness thou - it is absolutely self affirming and lovely to know that there are such caring women who can be bothered to reply to me. I am having a weird week and feeling quite self destructive for a variety of reasons. I have put the Dremel away for now.

Salacylic acid? Maybe. I'm going to research and stop being a dick.

How were you planning to numb the skin? We’re you seriously considering sandng it off?
Id love to know if that would actually work.
Give it a go and report back

Or maybe not

And tattoo fixers - oh my word , how crap are the tattoos they do !

I completely understand you not caring about a scar.

Oh god - I made my lovely kids sound awful. I probably said 'Do you hate this stupid tattoo" or something along those lines. No one else cares. I got it during a very very odd time in my life and it has to go. I don't know why but it has to go now. No one else cares about the stupid tattoo - just me. My DD even kissed it once when I was stretching my bikini about to cover it up but she was 4 then and 4 year olds have bad taste.

This is just about me hating a tattoo and wanting it gone at low cost without too much traveling.

If it was a one off £400 and 2 hour trip I could do it but not 8 trips - that's too much time and money combined. I work very very long hours.

I am looking at a YouTube tutorial that suggests that bazzuca stuff you use for verrucas! Jesus that looks sore Shock
