AIBU?

To think I'd love a Thursday evening glass of wine

Staying at my parents along with my 2 young kids for a few days. Kids are in bed and I'd just love to be sitting down with a glass of wine for an hour before going to bed. We'd usually have a glass on a Thursday night at home, sometimes a cheeky second, sure it's nearly the weekend.

But it would be frowned upon at my parents house. They do sometimes open a bottle of wine at the weekend but they'd think I had some sort of problem if I wanted a glass on a Thursday. And I'd feel a bit silly having a glass on my own while they have a cup of tea.

Goodness I'm nearly 40, why can't I just have a glass of wine when I fancy one! Guess I'll just have to wait until tomorrow night.

Take a bottle with you next time you visit so you can have a glass when you want. My dm didn't really drink but did enjoy the odd drink if I brought it with me.

Go for it. You’re a grown up! I’m having a rum and coke. Cheers 🥂

Mmm you're not making me feel much better. If I have to sit here with a cup of tea watching golf on tv, then I don't think you all should be allowed to be indulging in a Thursday evening alcoholic beverage.

Poor you.

I’m having my second glass of wine this month and loving it tonight!

Dry January sort of turned into dryish February 🙂

Is there no wine in your parents house? I'd ask for a glass and say I'd replace the bottle tomorrow.

ALWAYS travel with a bottle of wine.

Why not? If you only drink 2 nights a week why do they have to be the weekend?? Swop n change the day isn’t going kill anyone.

Dh and I decided to share a bottle. My father arrives at the door and we were both scrambling to hide the bottle but didn't get glasses out of sight before he came in.

In fairness he'd say nothing but will mention it to my mother and it'll confirm to her we drink every night of the weekConfused

There is wine here, it's just that it would be frowned upon, and they would think I had some sort of problem for having a glass of wine on my own. And on a Thursday! It wouldn't be enjoyable at all......

I’ve just had two.

It’s not Thursday... it’s Friday Eve!

Have a cider. Kopparberg elderflower and lime. Hardly even got alcohol in it.

I grew up with parents who only ever drank at Christmas and Hogmanay, now that was tough Grin luckily I got them into wine in the 90s so things improved! I can totally understand your uncomfortable feelings around drinking in front of them on a Thurs tho, many sympathies!
(Next time, go to bed and drink there!)

So long as you aren't driving in the morning and your parents are sober for the kids, then no problem.

No. Sorry. Still wouldn't take responsibility for kids or drive next day even on 1 glass. But it doesn't exactly matter because OPs parents aren't drinking (Even 1) anyway.

??? @starzig I wasn't talking about getting sloshed with my very sober parents, although that could have been the start of a rather amusing thread, just enjoying a nice glass of red before retiring to bed just after 10.

@Loyaultemelie I will ensure I don't run into the same problem as you tomorrow night and make sure we actually have some wine in the house!

Well I've decided to get an early night, my glass of vino tomorrow night will feel so much more deserved!

Don't you have to nip to the pub shop for something for the kids' breakfast OP? I'm sure you mentioned earlier that you did.
