AIBU?

To put paper on the seat when using the loo in public?

I've had people argue that it is ridiculous to do this. I, personally, feel more comfortable. I know it wastes more paper but it's better than squatting to avoid actually touching the seat. Plus, if someone has left a mess there before me, I'll know. They say you can't catch anything from touching a seat but it still creeps me out. What do most people do?

I do this but it’s getting harder to do because of the new eco toilet roll dispensers that give you one sheet at a time so hover and imagine the good it’s doing my abs.

Don't you have to touch the seat to put paper on it? Or do you kind of float it down? Sounds like hard work.
I hover, or sit if it looks clean, tbh.

I have done this but i prefer to hover.

I just hover over the seat

How do you use your abs to hover? I seem to work out my legs!

I always use paper when I take one of my kids to public loos. They are too small to hover, and to heavy to lift above the seat.

Why not wipe around the seat with paper then sit?
If the toilet is that bad, don't use it.
I've done this for years and haven't died of bum disease. Grin

Hovers are the ones leaving the mess for everyone else:(

Seriously just use the loo or take a wet wipe

Toilet seats don't kill people. This is ridiculous. Just sit on the seat like a normal person.

I go through phases of doing it, and often times when I don't, I hover. I'm now pregnant and guess at some point I won't be able to hover, so I'm about to order packets of paper loo seat covers from Amazon to keep in my handbag (like you used to get on planes). Less faff than trying to get paper to stay put!

Not if you hover above the actual toilet, and keep your feet on the floor.

Yep, it’s the cycle of selfishness. Just give it a wipe first if you want to remove imaginary germs Hmm

I don't understand this. Surely the paper sticks to your thighs when you stand up?
Hovering is not a good position for emptying your bladder nor will you catch anything from actually sitting down! If the toilet is that disgusting I'd use another one.

I have an illness which means I really can't be picky about toilets/waste time trying to sanitise. The worst loos I ever visited were in NY where there were syringes scattered with abandon. I have never caught anything from a toilet.

Use the toilet like an adult or don’t bother going. Hoverers always leave drips on the seat.

It’s overanxious, precious behaviour.

What disease can you catch from sitting on a toilet seat? I have never heard of this, is it new? Maybe VIPoo can help?

I always check that I leave the seat clean, even when I hover. I'd be mortified to leave it otherwise, but I'm aware others aren't like that. Just don't tar me with with their brush please!

Unless you've got open wounds on your bum, I can't imagine how you would catch anything from a toilet seat, short of sitting down on someone's used needle by accident. Could someone enlighten me on how this is supposed to happen?

I've hovered before and now prefer to sit as a courtesy to others who sit especially those who may not be able to hover due to a disability or because they're children. The dispensers that give one sheet at a time drive me mad! Not just for the difficulty in building my "nest" but it's just so time consuming as well!

If you wouldn’t press your naked bum against the random strangers naked bum who walked into the toilet before you then paper the seat! I have disposable paper toilet seat covers and would never sit on a toilet seat. Don’t care if I’m weird. Other countries have public toilets that clean the seat between each use or provide covers

I have a friend who claims she got HPV from a toilet seat but I've also heard that it is impossible to catch anything from a toilet as well. Then I hear of viruses and bacteria being able to live for a few hours on surfaces too. I just hear so many contradictions that I just try to play it safe.

I have brought myself to sitting directly on a toilet at work a few times. Only because I know they get cleaned at least twice a day and there are at most only 5 women who use it.

If you must, why not sit on your hands and then wash them?

I never sit on them. I squat over them. You just never know. It only takes the one dirty person.

you're fucked if you need a shit tho

I'm not concerned about catching anything, i just don't feel right sitting on a seat used by strangers.

Report
sexyegg · 20/02/2018 19:09

There's no consequence in sitting on a toilet seat though. Everything else in a public setting is just as germy.
