To be concerned about amount toddler drinks?

Ds2 drinks A LOT. Around 8-9 cups of water a day (10oz cup), he will also try to drink other peoples drinks. The amount he drinks doesn't stop him from eating either, which for ds1 it would. Obviously he pees loads too. I noticed this a few weeks back and people have recently been comme ting on how much and how quickly he drinks, as if he can't quench his thirst. He also isn't as energetic as his brother and will sit on my lap for extended periods of time.

I have a doctors appointment later this afternoon for him, am i right to be concenred or will the doctor just think I'm a neurotic mum and i just have a thirsty child?

Seems sensible to check it out :) drinking too much (which is subjective) can be a sign of some health problems.

There's not much more anyone can say until you are seen by the doctor. Good luck.

It could be something or nothing. Your GP is well placed to advise. Don’t google!!

The 4 T's can point to Type 1 diabetes - it's always worth repeating them:

Tired
Thirsty
Toilet
Thinner

My DN was diagnosed because she was moody, shattered, constantly drinking and suddenly wetting the bed again at age 7.

Hopefully you've just had the heating on because it's cold outside and it's dried his mouth or he's just decided it's his thing to do for the next couple of weeks. But you are very wise to follow your instinct and have it checked out. Fingers crossed it's nothing.

The only one in your list that i cant place is thinner. Although he eats far more than his older brother he's not as big as you would expect for the amount he puts away. He will fall asleep very easily at any time, and we've always joked about him being a grumpy child since he was tiny. Hopefully thats just the way he is.

I'm trying not to worry about it, my friend said her child was very similar and was diagnosed at 3.5 with type 1 when a simple finger prick test showed her levels at 25.2!
