AIBU?

To think I’m not a weirdo for wanting a non-wired bra!

I’ve finally finished feeding my last child! I want pretty new bras to celebrate after years of ugly, washed out feeding bras. After all these years wearing feeding/maternity bras, I can’t abide wiring of any sort! With this in mind I took myself off to my nearest M&S today to see what they had. I had measured myself beforehand as I don’t like the way M&S does it.

I was happily browsing when lady came up and asked if I needed any help. I asked if that was all they had in non wired as they were really old fashioned looking. At that she looked me up and down and said that younger ladies like me (I’m late 30’s) usually wear “normal bras” and they only sold those kind to older ladies.

I felt really self conscious after this and didn’t really want to stand there explaining things to her and muttered that it was ok I’d leave it. Nope she was off on a crusade to prove to me I really wanted a wired bra and asked my size, I told her she told me she didn’t think so, I stood my ground on this. So anyway I was handed about 5 bras to try. In the end I hung them back up whilst her back was turned and left. I’m ordering online from now on, I don’t care if I have to send them all back if it means I avoid an experience like that again!

AIBU for not liking wired bras? Also AIBVU for actually wanting non wired ones to be pretty?

I have just bought myself some unwired bras from M&S can't remember the name but theyre pretty, and oh so comfortable! My shop is no different with wired or non wired so I'm not putting myself through it anymore.

I have some M&S bralets which are amazing. Also some lacy non-wired bras from H&M. I bought a couple of not too sporty sports bras for work. I hate bras with padded cups and couldn’t face wires after the comfort of maternity bras either

ASDA have some nice non wired bras. And bralettes are pretty fashionable at the moment! I generally wear wired but I like to wear the non wired type too.

I always order online for M&S bras, you can order several and its free delivery over £50. And you can try them on much easier at home.

I haven't had any kids and haven't worn an under wired bra in years. Comfort comes first for me Grin

My DW had a mastectomy so needs a non-wired bra for her remaining boob and to hold her false one. I am now an expert in finding non-wired bras in M&S and if I find a really nice sexy one we both are pleased, and have a wee dance around the shop.
They are there but seem to be well hidden.

Thanks ladies, glad to know I’m not a weirdo. I’ve actually found some pretty ones online at M&S, my local one only had the old lady variety.

Question about bralets, are they supportive for bigger boobs? I’m an FF cup.

I still have no idea what the wiring on a bra is for, apart from to make it more uncomfortable and occasionally escape out the side and jab you in the armpit or jam the washing machine! I buy from Amazon and am always amazed at the range they have!

God no, you are not BU.

And try having D cup boobs, and a size 16/18 and over 40.
I'm constantly being handed bras when shopping, that make my chest look like a the prow of a battleship.

Thanks for this thread! I can't abide wired bras following an illness so I will be trying all of those places mentioned above. I'm still wearing nursing bras! Blush

Primark do non wired too, and I removed the wires out of all my bras after six years of either being pregnant or breastfeeding!

I can’t wear wired bras after surgery. Unwired are so much more comfortable.

I tried on some nice non wired bras in m&s on Friday. I needed a different size and didn't have time to dress and try again but def will buy as they were so soft, comfy and pretty.

It's interesting, because I went into M&S a couple of months back and thought the tide was turning - several great racks of unwired whereas when I used to wear unwired I used to find them very hard to find. Must just be some branches, then.

What's an old lady bra?

I am 29 and have been converted to non-underwired bras. Forgot to pop one on one morning (School run haze). Bought one from Tesco on the way to work and oh my god.. I will never wear underwire again! my boobs look so much better through my clothes as well, better shaping and not at all saggy.

these were the only kind that my store had! Granted it isn’t massive but come on! I’m actually surprised as they have lovely ones online.

If you're a weirdo so am I. I have ASD and tried wired bras aand couldn't. The wiring feels really uncomfortable, itchy and tight despite proper fitting. I've tried a few times because there is so much more choice, colours and more in my size.

(My current rules with clothing is put the thing on then get on with my day. If I'm still thinking about it/annoyed/itchy after half an hour then I give up, no guilt, no feeling I "should" like it because it is expensive/a present/looks good on me.)
