To think games should fit in their box

Drives me crazy that Hungry Hippos doesn’t fit in its box once assembled. Also it is too hard for kids to put together and take apart so if it is to live in its box I have to put it together whenever they want to play it and take it apart again.

My DC has a John Lewis alphabet jigsaw thing that simply will NOTgo back in the box without half of them being pushed out of their slots.

So irritating!

YES! I got ds hungry hippos for Christmas. Now I can't work out where to keep the bloody thing because it doesn't fit in it's box, in any of our toy storage boxes, or even really on a shelf.

You can detach the hippos and they click into he underside of the base. Then the whole lot fits back in the box neatly.
I appreciate it’s difficult for very young children to do, but only takes me a min.

i was so incensed by hungry hippos i wrote to the manufacturer, i got a meh response, can't remember exactly what as it was years ago, but they didn't care.

Melissa & Doug with their cutesy wooden, lidless boxes are also a pet hate, give the fecking box a lid. actually their stuff is shit, washable paints that indelibly stain everything within 30 meters, modelling clay that revers back to it's original shape in seconds and can't be joined. dry dry dry ink pads, i've given up on them, definitely style over substance

Immediately thought of Hungry Hippos on reading thread title. The annoying thing is the box would only need to be a few cm bigger to fit in the assembled hippos. It’s like they think prising the hippos off the bottom and clicking them into place is part of the fun. It’s. Not. Fun. Angry

YES! We have a game called "Humpty Dumpty's Wall". When assembled, it won't fit in the box, which needs to be about 2cm longer (and could easily be a good bit narrower, so don't give me the "packaging costs" argument). It's a pain to take apart, and DS can't do it, so he can't tidy it up himself. But it has loads of small bits, so it can't just stay out either.

We also have Uno Blast. It came in one of those open boxes with plastic, so basically no usable box but no real way of storing the cards, so it has to be kept up high as otherwise a slight knock would send the cards flying everywhere.

I thought of hungry hippos too when I saw the title. It’s very annoying. There is a way to pack it all away properly but it takes too long 🙄

We have so many games like this!

Humpty Dumpty's Wall being the most irritating. Also Squawk and Don't Take Buster's Bones.

DS1 got a gorgeous Melissa and Doug magic set for Christmas. The tricks are great, the quality is marvellous...the box has a big round hole in one end AND doesn't clip shut! It takes up loads of room and all the small bits keep falling out Angry

YANBU.

We got stung with Hungry Hippos too!

It takes 2 minutes to assemble/disassemble but why??

Also, bloody Tetris dual. Once you build the wall it does NOT budge from the digital display so there's no way to get it anywhere near the bloody box.

@Afternoon The trick with Jenga is to build a tower and then put the box on upside down (over the tower) if you see what I mean?

The travel Hungry Hippos is actually better as there's a dome to hold the balls in.
We keep HH assembled and have a zip lock bag for the balls. I would toss the thing but it was bought by Annoying Auntie who says it's hers and she's just lending it...

My normal version hungry hippos has a little pot that screws underneath the board so it’s not too bad. Maybe I have a newer version? Still doesn’t fit in the box though.

Oh I hate this! We have several toys and games that do not fit without being totally disassembled. And generally toys are cheap n nasty these days, guess who? being a prime example. I have an original one from the 1980s and it was much better quality.

@Ragusa "And generally toys are cheap n nasty these days, guess who? being a prime example. I have an original one from the 1980s and it was much better quality."

My sister bought Guess Who for my nephews, and the pictures are really unclear! One person looked like a man but had a female name. Another had a very unclear moustache- it was hard to say for sure whether it was a moustache or not. Made it really hard to play with small children!
