AIBU?

To have told this woman to get in the queue?

Our local supermarket has a click and collect service. Usual thing to do is to go to customer services and give them order details then return after doing shopping or wait til they go out the back and get it.

When I do this I return to customer services after shopping and queue again to pick up item after doing shop and it seems to the norm.

So today, already pissed off that there was no mac and cheese sauce jars in stock again! and knowing I would have to make it from scratch, I was in queue for customer services. There was a bit of a queue as the staff seemed to be dealing with complicated customer matters, so waited about 5 mins and a woman walked up from the other end of the queue area to an assistant that had just became free. I was next and she had called me down.

Queue jumper had returned to collect an order after her shop. Assistant started serving her and apologised to me so I said to the woman 'Oi, there's a queue here, can you get in it please'? She told me she'd already queued once and didn't want to wait again and I could mind my own business. I said it was my business as I'd been waiting and it was my turn so she told me to fuck off. It wasn't a hand it over and finished job, assistant had to check ID, fiddle with scanner, get signature etc.

Assistant said she had already queued to give the order details and that's why she'd just walked up. I said she should have directed her to the queue.

So was BU?

I think it's the norm to queue again - you can choose to wait and then you would be seen right away, but if you wander off then that's the consequence

And no, you weren't BU.

Hell no! You wait in the queue!!

I do have issues with queue jumpers though, especially as I work in a supermarket and that my uniform apparently renders me invisible in queues. Even in the cafe next to my work Angry

I think you were being a busybody TBH. She had already queued once, and the assistant obviously had no problem with what she did.

I think if she had queued once, been told to go off and get something and then come back, it is fair not to have to queue a second time.

You are not BU about the queue. You are, however, BU to refer to ‘mac and cheese’. 😊

Queue jumpers Angry
At Dublin airport we were once in a queue for NINE HOURS and some fucker tried to queue jump. You've never seen so many annoyed people in your life. They went to the back of the queue Grin

It is good that we queue in this country, but some British people can be twats about it. I remember once we were at the airport waiting at a massive queue for check in, then our flight was called. I was worried we would miss it, so I got DH to leave the queue and ask a member of staff what to do, then come back to me. The member of staff obviously agreed we needed to get going, so they pulled us out of the queue and processed us so we didn't miss the flight. Didn't stop audible muttering from other people in the queue, which I ignored.

And nine hours is totally unacceptable obviously, Dublin airport need to sort themselves out. Was this queueing to get on the plane or what? How would that work? Sounds pretty incredible.

Why ????

I bet this is Waitrose. The queuing system baffles me there; you queue to give them your number and id then you queue again to collect it. But if you don't have shopping and loiter by the desk you somehow automatically stay at the front of the queue.

I don't believe the 9 hour thing in Dublin either. Quite an efficient airport I have found.

What were you queuing for?

No I completely get this - what did she think you had done to get your trolley of stuff - I was in a queue in Tesco once and it got to my turn and what I wanted to ask was a bit complicated but not a long do - well the woman behind me was moaning like bugger and saying my thing is only this that and the other expecting me to give way and just let her do her thing. Then she started on me personally (at this point I had said nothing not even looked at her as my back was to her)- I turned round and told her to get off her high horse and wait like everyone else had had to and stop trying to queue jump. She lost the plot and had to be escorted off the premises by security. She never got her thing done and apparently she has done it before as well if what the assistant said was true!!! Just plain weird.

YANBU, but I hate it when shops don't have an obvious policy or method regarding this kind of service and line up.

The assistant had called you down so she and cheeky queue fucker wbu.

Our Sainsbury's sounds like it has a similar set up. Customer services is at one end of the counter then there's two tills. Usually one queue for both tills and you go to whichever one gets free first. But, if i need customer services then i queue directly in front of that end of the counter.

Sometimes this means you get served before the queue for the tills. Sometimes this means you wait while the person assigned CS serves about 20 people and you end up waiting and feeling like a muppet.

But if you queue in the till queue for customer service, you can guarantee someone will start their own queue for customer service and get served long before you do.

There is just no way to win this system that doesn't involve using barriers. Which supermarket don't like to do.

What I'd like to know is what brand sauce is nice?
I don't mind tomato based ones and some are actually nicer than what i make, but I haven't been able to find any decent Mac and cheese ones. I do have a decent recipe to make if you'd like OP.

Can't help with the queue situation as I'm always fairly baffled what's the correct etiquette with some of them Confused.

Once had a woman rush to the counter where I was already conversing with assistant, announcing she was in a hurry so must go first. I said ‘so am I’ and she looked like I called her a slag in my best Danny Dyer accent. I continued with my bizniz.

Mmh I don't know. At my local Waitrose when you collect something you queue, they get your order number, check id etc, then tell you to do your shopping and come back.
You then shop, queue at the till to pay , then go back to customer service. They recognize you, hand the parcel and receipt - all done in 10sec. Not really fair to queue (for a 3rd time) for the second part of the transaction esp as it is the 10sec part!

Mac n cheese in a jar? Does that mean the pasta is already in there? Sounds vile.

Queuing twice is shit customer service so on balance I don’t think she was U for “queue jumping”.

Telling you to fuck off made her U.

Its Tesco own brand sauce. Relatively new I think. You add it to pasta like a pasta bake. I add steamed broccoli, roasted baby toms, peppers and onions and small bit of ham or bacon as too much makes it salty.

Not vile at all. Its bloody nice and makes a nice change from tomato based pasta sauces. Don't like carbonara.

My homemade sauce was OK but not as gorgeously cheesy junky tastingWink.

Back on topic - if she'd been loitering waiting for her package I'd not have had a problem but IMO if you leave a queue to go do off and do something else, you don't expect to jump to the front of it when you go back do you?
