AIBU?

Partners who sent flowers/balloons to a person's workplace

That's it really...AIBU to think this is incredibley showy to send flowers or balloons etc to your partners workplace. It reeks of smug couples and "look at me and this big generic grand gesture I can do in front of as many people as possible ". Understated things done more privately are a lot better and I've never actually seen anyone not look embarrassed to have flowers delivered to them at work. It's done more as a "look what a wonderful DP I am in front of my partners work colleagues " thing....

Yes I'm in a relationship and not bitter. I get flowers and this idea would be my worse nightmare Grin

You do sound bitter ...

I used to love it.

I quite liked it thefew times dp has done it. Not just Valentine’s Day and there have been good reasons each time.

Jesus

This site never fails to provide wierd things that annoy me people

And here is a new one !

Have you considered that people order things online as they don’t have TIME to visit shops and they are always at bloody work !

Or because they won't be at home to take the delivery?

I had flowers delivered to my work once by a happy client to thank me on a job well done. Huge bunch. I wasn't the least bit embarrassed and nor was anyone else jealous.

It is a bit cringe.
Secretly I'd be pleased though.
I'd be DELIGHTED if it was from a secret admirer. But alas it will never be

Well, I got absolutely zip today so any kind of Valentine’s thing would be great in my book. Sad

Not wishing to be rude, but....what the fuck's it got to do with you? Just get on with your work.

I really am not a romantic person at all so I find it unbearably cringy and would die a death if anyone did it to me. But it's not offensive and if it makes them happy then so be it. I do think it's tacky and I agree showy but there's worse things a person can do. I just internally role my eyes and get on with whatever I'm doing.

Flowers are fine. Making a big show with balloons and stuffed toys is a bit cringey in an office environment, but tolerable.

You sound a bit odd-delivering flowers to work (whether it's a partner or a family member or a friend) is the norm-most people aren't at home to collect a florists delivery.

It's only real love if there's a live bug and he turns up with a picnic and candles innit.

It happened to me once, from an otherwise not terribly demonstrative bf. I was touched as it was a public show of his affection.

I've never had it done for me but I think it's lovely. Cheers up the office to see someone else happy!

I would love that. Particularly as I got sweet FA!

Op.. I bet you would bloody love it if they were your flowers ! Send some to yourself ! Grin

I’d be appalled if DH sent flowers to my office.

Besides which I always think it’s a shame that someone had spent lots of money on flowers and they end up in the sink in the ladies loo all day.

I agree OP.

I would be so embarrassed.

I would actually detest the idea of a secret admirer.

Don't piss on someone's parade, it's a lovely gesture and folk cannot take floral deliveries at home if they're at work can they.

I'd cringe so much if my husband did this.

This comes up every Valentine's Day.

Couldn't care less. And no we don't do Valentine's either.

God it's ridiculous. I would hate it.

I do think it is cringe sorry.

It's akin to someone shouting 'LOOK WHAT AN AMAZING PARTNER I AM'

Report
Idontevencareanymore · 14/02/2018 17:54

Yeah I'd hate it. Just more crap to lug home on a wet February day.

Much rather come home to a nice takeaway and bunch of flowers/box of chocs and deal with it all alone.
