AIBU?

To have a moan about a parking issue here

Ok so I know that legally there isn’t anything I can do about this as the owner of the car pays road tax and so on and can park legally where he likes…..but it just seems really inconsiderate, so Im just gonna have a little moan.
Basically, there is a man who must work locally but live far away, as he has a van which he parks on our street from Friday night to Monday morning across the road from us but then on a Tuesday he takes his car from across the street and leaves his car outside our house from Monday morning to Tuesday night. This has been going on for a few weeks. One of our neighbours said that he was doing the same thing at a house round the corner for quite a while until the man that lived there had a talk with him.
I know I have no right to expect to be able to park outside my own home, and it is a public highway but having to get DS and all his assorted school/holiday club gubbins and me and my work stuff out to the car and back again in the foul weather we have been having every day from varying points across the street just because someone doesn’t want to pay for long stay parking is just really starting to piss me off.
Like I said earlier, as a tax payer on a public highway, he is within his rights to do so, so I am just having a moan here cos I cant do in real life.

Have a word with him?

If hes a dick about it you could always call the police and say it's been abandoned/looks dodgy. Might annoy him enough into parking elsewhere.

That’s would give me the rage too OP. Yes it’s legal yadda yadda but it’s still fucking annoying. Our neighbour has three cars, he doesn’t use them regularly leaves one outside his own house and the other two outside mine and someone up the road. Our driveway is tiny and my car just about fits on it but i only just passed my test and can’t park for shite. I offered for him to leave his car on our drive because he never uses it, he didn’t get the hint. It’s legal, he’s taxed the car so nothing I can do. I still moan though Grin

We are never there when he performs the swap.

We had similar. We went on holiday and someone local parked their manky van outside our house for THREE MONTHS. It literally did not move in that time, not once - it had cobwebs (and possibly a small community of homeless elves). I rang the council and while they told me there was nothing they could do, they clearly were aware of the owner because it was moved a few days later to another long term parking spot.

Yabu.

You want to be able to park outside you home. As someone without a car, I have no sympathy for you. Millions of people can't afford to have a car, or choose not to for environmental reasons. I have to walk from the station or bus stop, with my 3 year old, in the rain, with heavy bags etc. I don't have the luxury of having a vehicle outside my home. I survive.

I'm currently getting annoyed because our next door neighbour always parks ourside our house and not theirs. For ages I couldn't understand why as they would do it even when there was a space available outside theirs, then I twigged that maybe it was because they have a very expensive 4x4 and didn't want to be burgled for the keys, so park it outside ours instead. Of course, I can't prove that, but I can't think of any other good reason why they would do that?

Its more likely that they don't want to look out of their window and see it all day.

We have had several neighbours who think that way, large 4X4s, transit vans, flatbed lorries etc.

Crikey... I don't have a train to walk to, a regular bus service and was not able to have kids... but I certainly wouldn't aim any of that at a specific poster...

... No! I'd just not bother posting on the thread!

curious she asked if she was being unreasonable by posting here. I gave my reasons why I thought she was. Isn't that point of aibu board?

YANBU to be annoyed about it, but I don't think that legally you have a leg to stand on, so I'm not sure what you can do about that.

Maybe try having a word like the other people did?

Is it his van or a company van? Can you complain to the company?
