AIBU to ask you tell me where I can eat the nicest cake in central London

Not really an AIBU but I have been drooling over images of rainbow cake and red velvet cake and am heading to central London tomorrow with my kids and wondered what the best cake shop in central London would be? I would like to sit down and enjoy my cake so am not interested in an establishment where you just buy cake? I have heard good things about hummingbird bakeries but am I right in this you cannot sit down in there to eat your cake?

Primrose Bakery off High St Ken is nice. Couple of tables to sit down.

It's nice cakes rather than insta-worthy rainbow cakes though. Although I guess the cupcakes and the decor probably are.

Lola's in Selfridges. They have red velvet cake & rainbow cake, and seating.

Konditor and Cook do something called a curly surly cake which is chocolate cake with vanilla mascarpone icing with chocolate swirls piped on it. It is banging. It's take away rather than eat in though.

Peggy Porschen is also meant to be amazing and the shop is SO beautiful.

Konditor and Cook. The one in the Gherkin you can sit down.

This article lists some great bakeries - one of which is in Brewer Street (Soho) - and I'd never heard of. //www.tatler.com/article/best-cake-shops-bakeries-london-review

I think a previous poster is thinking of Konditor and Cook - they have branches in quite a few bits of London and are amazing.

Peggy Porschen is Victoria-way and lovely.

And how cold I forget!?!

Laduree.

You can sit down in Covent Garden and Harrods.

Oh my goodness. The tea is and the cakes are something to dream about.

This is my specialist subject! My current favourite is Ole and Steen just down from Piccadilly Circus. It's amazing. Or Primrose Bakery in Covent Garden (near the Lion King theatre) has plenty of seating. Enjoy your cakes!

I envy you your life is cake-eating in Central London is you special subject! Grin

and in Laduree the hot chocolate comes in individual silver pots

we used to go to Harrods or Fortnums and buy a fancy cake, always seems to be a better choice than at their sit down sections.

You can sit down at Hummingbird Bakery. Also try Princi, a few doors down from them. The London Review Bookshop cafe is a hidden gem, as is Drink Shop Do in Kings Cross.

Bake in Soho. Fresh cream cake, softest sponge ever. Trust me

For amazing doughnuts (get them too!) Crosstown Doughnuts in Soho. Sometimes I go into town just to get them

L’eto in Soho. They very kindly have a shop front which is all window so you can gasp at their amazing cake selection. Conveniently located by hummingbird, and not far up from Princi. I feel sorry for people who walk down the street, stop into hummingbird and then realise the world’s most magnificent array of cake was just a bit further down.

Another vote for Konditor and Cook! I go to the Waterloo branch but they have plenty of others. Enjoy, OP, wherever you end up! Smile

I think this is one of my favourite ever threads on Mumsnet ❤️❤️❤️ another vote for Ladurée! Oh and the cake counter in Fortnum and Mason!! Although it’s takeaway rather than sit-down.

Urgh hummingbird cake looks a lot nicer than it tastes. I'm not a massive fan of Cutter and Squidge or Konditor and Cook either. It's all just so sugary and sweet and not cake like enough.

I want to try l'eto.

Thank you for this! Am going to London on Thursday and was planning on going to Chockywockydoodah but apparently they are moving premises on Thursday and won't reopen until Saturday! I shall definitely check out some of these places!
