To ask how much you pay for a childminder?

Quick back story..

I am currently a SAHM with 2DC, my husband works and lucky he earns enough to support us and we are now currently saving for a mortgage deposit but adding childcare into the mix will make things abit tight but I really want to provide for the family and have applied to finish studying in September so I can get a career.

1 DC is in full time school and second will be in nursery ( the school as no wrap around service ) so I'm guessing a childminder will be our cheapest option and easier with a mid day pick up ect...

I have no idea where to start and how much they cost? And even if this will be the best option?

I pay £6ph, which includes food and two childminders working together.

I would start by asking for recommendations. Your DCs school might have details for cms that pick up from your school.

£5 an hour. This doesn't include food. It is a mini nursery setting though with 2 childminders and a helper and 8 children in total most days.

It really really depends on your area. I’m in the north east and going rate is £4-£4.50 an hour. Down in London it can be £8/9ph and anywhere in between. Some cms will charge full day rates, or half day rates or other set fees. Some will charge for hols, some won’t. I think it’s important to ask around locally to find your best deal. This may not necessarily be the cheapest one, make sure you click with the cm too. Look at what you pay for over the year too.

Mine is £3.75 but I round it up to £4 and pay with childcare vouchers

You need to find out if any CM pick up from your school? Sounds like school nursery for second one or preschool most CMs (but not all) will charge for the time a preschooler is in nursery as it still uses up a space. I guess with the 30 hours fewer CMs have 3/4 year olds unless they want to take the funding. CM markets are very localm so it will depend where you are.

About £5p/h and we send food. Childcare vouchers cover some but I couldn't tell you off the top off my head the exact figure.

Mine does start charging more for wrap around care though as it still impacts her numbers during the day.

It's not guareented to be available but I think it's worth looking at nanny options. The hours wouldn't be particularly desirable but you never know. I'm pretty sure you can use childcare vouchers for a nanny providing they're registered with ofsted.

Mine is £4.50 for 1st child and £4 for 2nd. But we also use childcare vouchers.

Here in SE London our childminder offers 8am to 6pm with all food and local outings included for £50 per day. She does pick up at local schools but charges a full day nevertheless.

£3 an hour. Term time only. She doesn't charge for holidays (ours or hers), doesn't charge when child is sick and doesn't charge for hours when 3 year old is at nursery. I love her - have tried to pay her more per hour (which she refuses) and hope she doesn't stop childminding in the next 3 years!

john are you saying you have to pay a full day for before/after school care?

There are different ratios for older kids so if that's the case you are being charged for a whole day which wouldn't be filled anyway.

£3.50 per child per hour. This includes all food and drinks for the day. Also includes wipes we just send nappies.
Three days a week for DD1 (3) and DD2 (1) from 7-5.30 works out at £670 per month we pay pro rata as they don't go in the holidays as I always have the holidays off work

£4.50 people hour currently (she provides food). Previously I paid £5.75 per hour (in North London) when he was younger (and I had to provide all food, nappies etc)

£3 per hour for first child, £5 for two. Incredibly cheap, but I usually round it up to the nearest fiver when paying as she's fabulous and really don't want to lose her!

£30 a day and he goes from 7:30 to around 4-5 depending on work for me that day. We provide food and everything else. She is very reasonable (and awesome) and said she won’t be upping her prices. We pay £500 a month as he’s term time only there so we pay for 40 weeks over 52.

@GreenSeededGrape oops, missed the word 'nursery'. She only does under 5s so with nursery pick ups you do pay a full day or she'd be over her ratio.

In Surrey, £6 ph per child in holidays, £7ph per child wrap around care in term time. Food is extra (£2.50 per day each child breakfast and tea as well as lunch in hols). Previous cm was slightly cheaper but same ballpark.
