Does mumsnet ever ban or sanction persistent troll hunters

I have noticed on some threads even when HQ comes in and says they have checked out the person and they are not a troll posters on here still pile in with troll accusations.
The procedure is to report and then let HQ decide, I have been accused of being a troll a few times and it can really hurt so I dread to think how someone who has really got up the courage the post about things.
Why can’t people just report if they have suspicions and leave it to HQ rather then have a go at the Op who is more then likely genuine.

Yes mermaid, at that point in time I was feeling very low and it really knocked me. A lot of people are affected by the internet, there have even been cases of people committing suicide over what people have said to them over the Internet. Ok not on mumsnet as far as I know, but still when someone is on the edge it would not take a lot to push them over

They're perfectly clear that their policy is to report if you suspect a troll.

Personally I just find it irritating as fuck when a thread is full of troll accusations. Plus the majority of trolls are ridiculously inane and harmless but promote discussion and entertainment.

You could have posted this in site stuff. There are more "troll hunters are awful" threads than threads about trolls. Troll hunters aren't the ones making up threads about "CFs" and inviting people to share stories about their teen DDs heavy periods a dozen times per day though

Of course the majority of trolls are harmless. The spiteful, ignorant "troll hunters" with their snide remarks aimed quite often at genuine posters are considerably more harmful.

It's bizarre to me that so many people treat this place as the 4th emergency service. It's not. It's a website visible to the whole world and available for posting to anyone with an email address. Of course there will be trolls...and MNHQ is quite clear that they should be reported & the thread hidden.

Instead, people like Boucle prefer to think they know better & are making the site close to unusable. (Are you a bit of a dickhead, btw? Don't bother to answer, I already know).

The problem is people do report,and report and the troll still stays around, this has happened several times at least when it was reported and any troll hunters were shot down in flames, only for it to be found the OP was a troll.

Also the whole trolls are harmless is bollocks, even if you ignore the poo/wee/period trolls, you have those that make up stories and then because of the stories are giving advice on (for example) special needs, based on the fact their imaginary child has it and the advice is bollocks, that way can not only lead to just misleading advice it can be down right dangerous in some cases.

Troll hunters are part of the problem. Some of the troll hunters have taken it a step further trying to find people in real life and their identities, once they have decided are trolls. The repercussions of that are not harmless either.

Another example is a poster has been targetted as a 'teacher troll or fantasist' and is discussed elsewhere, with nastiness and gossip, and followed around here.

There's no justification for it. It's not just the obvious poo-type or pervert trolls at all, but ordinary posters some people have taken a dislike to and have decided are trolls.

However, I do think that being accused of trolling is an annoying but everyday part of this site. I've put up the most ordinary posts in the past and had people saying, "what that happened to you OP, really? yeah right " I've thought, umm yes, who on earth would bother to make this very boring everyday AIBU up?

Trolls are a serious problem, or certainly can and have been. I've been witness over many years on here to a few trolls causing serious real life situations. One of our gorgeous members who is sadly no longer with us drove half way across the country in the middle of the night to help a troll. Fortunately no one was harmed. There have also been bloody hilarious trolls who have been great for a bit of entertainment, as well as downright irritating arsehole trolls.

However, Mumsnet are 100% clear on their troll hunting policy. Don't. Do. It.
So there really should be sanctions for the people who continually think they are above these rules and even when told repeatedly not to, continue to do it. They seem to think they're doing other poor vulnerable users a service and people should be grateful for their gung-ho rule breaking fantastic troll-dar.

In saying all that, there have been bans before, although these have been met with huge uproar.

This could be solved by a more round the clock paid staff presence but this is never seemingly going to happen.
