AIBU?

To think these parents should be hauled over the coals for this

A teenage girl was given highlights for her birthday by her mum - subtle ones - and when she returned home from a visit to see her father and stepmother they had cut off all of her hair as they disapproved. She has literally about 1-2 cm of hair length left on her head. She had long hair before.

Here's the link: uk.yahoo.com/style/father-chops-off-daughter-hair-124424056.html

AIBU to think this is a form of child abuse to do this to somebody against their will??? What a cruel, hateful thing thing to do to a child.

From the article:

”According to Fox 8 News, Haskins Police Chief Colby Carroll is working with Wood County Children’s Services to investigate the case as a potential instance of child abuse.”

So yanbu to think it is abusive. It is probably assault. I doubt anyone would disagree with you tbh!

I read that yesterday and it said that both the father and stepmother have been suspended from work as a result.

You have to wonder what they were thinking when they cut all that hair off as a punishment.

Nasty bastards.

Jesus, abusive twats!

The dynamic that would have to exist there for them to even think of doing that... let's just say that I hope the DD votes with her feet as soon as she can.

I wouldn't blame this poor girl if she decided to go NC with them after this. What the hell were they thinking? What horrible people they must be.

Crikey that's horrendous. She had gorgeous hair. The father and step mother sound deranged. How could anyone do that?

It'll probably emerge that he is one of those fundamental US Fathers who expects his daughter to stay "his little girl" and pledge her Virginity to him.

That's disgusting. At the very least I hope all future contact with her father and stepmother is supervise, IF she even wants to see them.

Well done to the mum for outing them.

I read the article earlier. His father and partner are vile and abusive. Poor girl.

If I'd read that story I'd have assumed it was fake but it seems legit. It's reported in the Independant.

The dad was 100% totally wrong in what he did. And deserves to be prosecuted.

They don't mention the girl's age other than "teenage"... why? A just turned 13 year old being given highlights is different to a 16 year old, did the mum run it past the dad for his opinion - she is the child of both parents. Or did the mum know the dad would go off on one because he has an objection to toxic hair dye being used on his little girl?

There are two sides to every story on this. Please read a little more into it before just going on what the press has said.

Oh I’m not condoning the Dads actions. But the Mum isn’t innocent in all of this.

My God that is unbelievable. It's assault and abuse, plain and simple. Bravo to the mother for outing them and to that poor brave girl.

It'll probably emerge that he is one of those fundamental US Fathers who expects his daughter to stay "his little girl" and pledge her Virginity to him.

Don't know about being in the US - quite possibly - but the kind of man who polices the sexuality of any woman he thinks he owns (actually, just any woman), yes for sure.

A just turned 13 year old being given highlights is different to a 16 year old, did the mum run it past the dad for his opinion

A 13 year old getting subtle, natural looking highlights does not need The Father's permission if her mother thinks it's fine and is taking her somewhere reputable.

Or did the mum know the dad would go off on one because he has an objection to toxic hair dye being used on his little girl?

Hair dye isn't toxic unless you drink it ffs, a reputable place would do a patch test. Anyway, if that was his concern all he had to do would be to take her to a doctor (and get laughed out of the place).

Literally dying (geddit?) to know what the mum did wrong here.

Please explain what the mum has done?

Report
saladdays66 · 08/02/2018 10:19

I'm amazed the girl sat and had her hair cut like that/didn't try to ring her mum to stop it happening. Mine wouldn't.

Report
Lovesagin · 08/02/2018 10:20

Even if the mum did this to piss the dad off, the teenage girl (not 'little' ffs) clearly wanted the highlights. In imaginary land even if the dad thought the mum was doing it to spite him he should have spoken to her about it, not taken it out on his daughter.

Doodlebug
What two sides? What did the mother do wrong?

What’s wrong with a 13 yo getting subtle highlights?
