I usually use a small amount as a moisturiser and love it. Last night i rubbed some into my hair and scalp and left it on overnight. Id actually forgotten this morning, had my usual shower and dried my hair.....

I've never seen my hair look as good, so soft and shiny. No more expensive conditioners for me. Smile
Thought i'd just share it with you all, i don't suppose i'm the only one who loves coconut oil. Does anyone else want to share the benefits of this wonderful stuff?

stupid question but where do you get it from?

I got mine from superdrug, only £2.99, but you can get the dearer stuff from places like Tesco (in the cooking oil aisles).

oh thanks - will try it

It is good. It doesn't leave me red and blotchy so that's always a good start. Not tried it on my hair, might give that a go!

How is that cheaper than conditioner? It isn't.

Yes, it's great on hair. I always used to have it to hand as it was one of the ingredients in the soaps I made.
Funnily enough, when used to make soap, if you use a large percentage of coconut oil, the resulting soap will be very drying on the skin, so it's used mainly for what soapmakers term, bubblidge! In other words, it makes a good lather.
It does make a good laundry soap though, as it has excellent cleaning properties.

It's not cheaper by weight, but you need very little on your hair so it does work out cheaper long term.

(I use it on my bleached hair, and it keeps it in lovely condition)

It lasts for ages fluffy, you don't need much. Could easily last a couple of year. But it's so versatile as well.

I hate it, horribly allergic!
But I know that is just me. It is getting very hard to avoid though as it is so popular!

I actually heard it's bad for your skin. I use to get the £10 one in holland and Barrett not sure I would pay £2.99 is it even pure coconut oil?

It's very soothing on cuts to the skin too.

It's pore blocking, sink blocking and belongs in a wok. Just an Instagram fad that's had folk believing it's a miracle worker for everything

Just my opinion of course

Yes it's pure coconut oil dancing, no different from Holland Barrett apart from the price.

I heard coconut oil was comedogenic so I've never tried it. I love maracuja oil, which is great for dry skin in the winter. Argan oil is great for the hair and the skin too.

I have just rubbed some onto my hair and scalp. I'll report back later when I've washed it off.

I was using it in my face for a few months and my skin became very red and bumpy with little spots that became dry rather than coming to a head. I sought advice on MN and was told to drop the coconut oil. I did and my skin returned to normal within a week. I still use it on my hair and body though.

have never tried it, although I know some people swear blind that coconut oil is the answer to all life's ills- I thought it had been somewhat discredited as a health food though?

Don't think I'll try it- brings back memories of many years ago when a friend persuaded me that olive oil was a wonderful conditioner for my frizzy hair. Despite numerous shampooings I had a water-repellent head for weeks afterwards, no hood required..

Its all a marketing myth, not even a healthy fat to eat despite what the internet says

Never found it to make a difference on my hair or skin, but I absolutely swear by pure rosehip oil Grin use it from top to toe
