To serve fish cakes with potato

They're the melt in the middle kind. I was going to serve with colcannon and a poached egg on top or with jacket spuds and salad. DH said it's breaking some good rule because it's just potato on potato Hmm

I like them with chips, it’s a texture thing. Is that helpful?

My dh says the same thing then he’s hungry an hour later .... shrug.

I always have fish cakes with potatoes (usually new or jacket), never thought there was anything wrong with it.

DH can do the cooking then, cheeky bugger.

My DP loves shepherds pie with chips!

Strictly speaking he's right, it is potato on potato. But even strictlier speaking we have them with chips

But fishcakes are potatoes - unless melting middle ons are different. I can’t imagine eating them with more potatoes. I’d have with julienne vegetables or a salad.

No need, that’s too much potato.

Have double the amount of fish cake so you are getting the fish AND the potato.

Serve with some green veg.

I always have mine with spinach.

Nah I always have fish cakes with extra potato! It's cheaper than having more fishcake and one fishcake is just not filling enough.

I agree with your DH. Ready made fish cakes are mostly potato so I serve with lots of veg or salad but not double spud 🥔. Colcannon with a poached egg sounds fab and a meal in its self. That all said if DH doesn't like the menu choice he can always plan, shop and cook.

I served them with potato croquettes last week...wasn’t until I tucked in that I realised they were essentially the same thing aside texturally!

Don’t know where that rogue aside came from!

I'd have melting middle fish cakes with sweet potato fries and salad

I have to say my dislike of fishcakes comes from how 'potatoey' they are (I don't like potatoes, sorry). I think they need to be served with something 'wet', like beans or egg and salad like a PP.

But yes, if your DH doesn't like it he can cook!

I have fish cakes with carrot and swede mash! Smile

It's a lot of potato.

Which is a Most Good and Tasty Thing!

This is why I find them a really awkward dinner - 1 fish cake is too little, 2 feels too indulgent! I tend to have them for lunch with coleslaw, salad etc on the side. Love the M&S melting middle cod ones

Have you tried the cans of mixed beans? I heat these up with a knob of butter and some garam masala - delicious!

Throw in some crispy kale and you have a very healthy, colourful meal.

I would have two melt in the middle ones with salad for a dinner. When I stay with my parents it's one each with chips.

lego Get them from Aldi instead of M&S, so they're cheaper and therefore 2 can be justified.

2 nice pre-prepared fishcakes and some salad from a bag with a drizzle of sweet chilli sauce is one of my go to easy dinners that I kid myself is vaguely healthy

Fish cakes are the exception that proves the rule. And I want to come to your house for tea.

Have it whatever way you like. Just give him salad and then see how fast he reaches for a sandwich to fill up!
