My apologies if this has been done to death, but last thing I want is a wedding fashion faux pas.

The bride is my DH's first cousin, the wedding is in June and I just wanted to run this past the mumsnet commitee... So, yay or nay?

That's very nice indeed. No faux pas in my eyes.

Unless the bridesmaids are in navy can't see why ot would be an issue. Was expecting something white and lacy

I don't understand why you would think there could be anything wrong with this dress. It's lovely, go for it

Very nice, but did you know there is a whole style and beauty topic?

mummymeister · 05/02/2018 10:34

I wouldn't wear it if it was black or white but otherwise navy and white/cream looks lovely. check with the bride that neither the bridesmaids nor mil or motb have this colour then you just need to accessorise.

I was imagining this to be a long white dress or a long sleeve black number complete with black tights and veil Grin

Lovely dress!

Yes it's lovely go for it. Can i ask where it's from?
Personally i'd go for a bright/pastel shoes, bag and fascination or hat. Pink goes lovely with Navy.

Right, as far as I know, there's only the maid of honour, but I will make double sure she's not in navy.

Thanks for the beauty and style tip off, wasn't aware of it.

I'm a tad nervous as it is my first in-law wedding and I'm determined not to cause any family rifts... My MIL and PIL are very reasonable people, but some on that side of the family can be a bit... erm... soap opera drama queens...

I haven't found it yet, just chose a general model that I am hunting now. Thing is, I hate shopping and shopping centres in particular make me a tad anxious. It's easier if I know exactly what I am looking for, choose a non rush hour time, jump in get it, then go home and soak in the tub to get the stress off.

I was thinking light blue accessories, I have a clutch, pumps and fascinator already in that colour from my cousin's wedding.

the Style and Beauty board people are usually super helpful for accessories etc.

Blackteadrinker77 · 05/02/2018 10:58

I didn't know there was a style board either!

Off to get some help with mother of the bride outfit Grin

I love your dress by the way

Do people real check what colour the bridesmaids, MOB and MOG are going to wear? So say bridesmaids in pink, MOB in blue and MOG in green you can't wear any of those colours? Maybe all the guests turn up in red or purple.

OP it is a lovely dress.

Report
dustarr73 · 05/02/2018 11:06

its a gorgeous dress,i second the silver accessories and maybe a shawl.

Report
Merrz · 05/02/2018 11:07

No I don't think you need to check what BM's/MOB etc is wearing. I certainly never have, even if it lands up being the same colour, BM's are unlikely to be in that style of dress

Report
grannytomine · 05/02/2018 11:08

Merrz, well that is two of us then. It isn't exactly the end of the world is it and lets face it the OP isn't going to get mistaken for the MOB because of the colour of her dress.

It's lovely.

I do wonder how many brides actually notice or care about these supposed faux pas outfits anyway (Not that this is one!) A guest at my (summer) wedding wore a white maxi dress, my only thought on it was that it was lovely. Another guest wore a gorgeous dress that was almost the same colour as my bridesmaids' - I didn't notice until a few years ago when flipping through the photo album and even then it was because someone else pointed it out!
