Just watched the clip of Jacob rees mogg at Bristol university, when a few momentum activists try to cause havoc and stop him from talking

Whatever anyone thinks of this man, I have to say he was pretty gutsy going up to them, considering they are all hiding behind Balaclavas and scarves and there wasn't any security there.
Most politicians wouldn't have gone near them, let alone try to talk to them

I like him. Yes his views are controversial and I don't agree with some of them, but at least he stands up for what he believes in

You like this man? Why ?

Doesn’t really believe in women’s rights nor same sex relationships . He’s kind of a novelty from another century no? A relic ?

Grrrrrsnarl Fri 02-Feb-18 23:27:01

Neither do other religions, but no-one questions them

VladmirsPoutine Fri 02-Feb-18 23:27:23

If I too were a bigoted fool I'd probably stand up for what I 'believed' in.

JustAWestcountryGirl Fri 02-Feb-18 23:27:25

I agree with you OP.
I like him because e has the courage to say what he believes and thinks and stands by it. I may not agree with him a lot of the time, but at least I know what he thinks! I have no idea about most other politicians!
Now would I vote for him as PM??? Hmmmm.... no!

NotWithABang Fri 02-Feb-18 23:27:51

Plenty of people question religion, actually...

Julie8008 Fri 02-Feb-18 23:28:17

Momentum are a really violent hateful bunch. Well done JRM for standing up to them, I hope they were arrested. Maybe we should consider raising the voting age to 25.

VladmirsPoutine Fri 02-Feb-18 23:29:22

but no-one questions them

Yep, absolutely no-one questions them. Hence there have been no wars or debate or arguments and indeed deaths over it. Nope. Not a single one.

Are you Mrs RM perchance?

VladmirsPoutine Fri 02-Feb-18 23:32:54

I like him because e has the courage to say what he believes and thinks and stands by it.

In our current culture of standing up for ones beliefs being used as a cover for hate speech and general racism - no doubt being spear-headed by Trump, I'm not surprised by this view. The only sad thing is that people genuinely buy into this narrative.

HolyAngelus Fri 02-Feb-18 23:34:38

Look at the Honourable Member for the Early 20th Century’s voting record, then see how much you admire the reactionary fucker.

ReggaetonLente Fri 02-Feb-18 23:35:19

The only sad thing is that people genuinely buy into this narrative.

Here here. Truly the worst, most odious people in history have been ‘standing up for what they believe in’.

Grrrrrsnarl Fri 02-Feb-18 23:36:50

Why is standing up for what you believe in racism or hate.
The momentum guys and his girlfriend went in standing up for what they believed in, shouting and chanting

They were so brave they wouldn't show their face
Cowards all of them

Grrrrrsnarl Fri 02-Feb-18 23:37:53

So yes by your argument. Momentum are odious

Smokeahontas Fri 02-Feb-18 23:39:08

Do I agree with much, if anything, he has to say? No.

Does that give anyone the right to attack an elected MP? No.

Otherwise do you just start violently attacking everyone who holds a different opinion to you? Is that what you teach your kids? God help us if so.

HolyAngelus Fri 02-Feb-18 23:39:31

Because the intensity with which you believe something bears no relation whatsoever to the worth of that opinion.

ReggaetonLente Fri 02-Feb-18 23:40:30

It’s not OP. But voting against equal rights for gay people and agreeing that Stephen Lawrence’s mum should be sent back to her ‘natural homeland’ kind of is.

Squeegle Fri 02-Feb-18 23:41:14

I don't like him but agree that was an outrageous way that he was treated. Not on.

ReggaetonLente Fri 02-Feb-18 23:41:57

It’s not a choice between the two. You can disagree with Momentum and JRM.

VladmirsPoutine Fri 02-Feb-18 23:42:51

Not sure about you OP - I'm sure you think he is a lovely man. But anyone let alone a man that thinks he or they should have a say in what women do (or don't) with their wombs or indeed has an opinion of the sex lives of two consenting adults isn't someone I would consider a 'decent' person.

Thehairthebod Fri 02-Feb-18 23:43:56

JRM is an absolute wanker and I certainly wouldn't want to buy a ticket to go and hear him speak.

But seriously these Momentum dickheads are getting out of hand. This whole shutting of anyone they don't agree with, with increasingly aggressive tactics is totally unacceptable.

mothertruck3r Fri 02-Feb-18 23:44:10

Momentum/Antifa are so cringey. Violently attacking people just because they have different views to you. Very immature and dangerous. Besides, this will just give them negative publicity and show Rees Mogg as a victim which presumably the Antifa/Momentum crowd wouldn't want?

BishBoshBashBop Fri 02-Feb-18 23:45:19

It's good actually that the likes Angela Rayner and Stella Creasy have said that what has happened isnt on.

You may or may not agree with him, but what happened was disgraceful.

Thehairthebod Fri 02-Feb-18 23:46:38

The way to change people's views is not just to point at them and shout over them 'you're wrong'. Grown ups debate and get people to state why they think the way they do and then counter argue why their view might be wrong.

VladmirsPoutine Fri 02-Feb-18 23:47:17

I'm not a fan of Momentum as such. I think they have a lot to answer for. As does Corbyn and Cameron and May and Davis. But there is a huge if not impenetrable chasm between realpolitik and wanting to govern the otherwise personal/individual choices of others.

weetabix07 Fri 02-Feb-18 23:47:44

I'd rather know an honest arsehole than one who pretends to be something they aren't.

I certainly don't agree with what he has to say etc. But he is what he is. Not my cup of tea but you know what you are getting.
