To think this man was a miserable git?

Lighthearted, but obviously not completely lighthearted because it’s about my darling PFB.

DS is 10mo, and has always liked smiling at strangers when we are out. On the tube today, and he looks across at this middle-aged man next to us, gives him a shy little smile and tries a tentative wave. This. is. his. first. wave. ever, so clearly a massive milestone and proud moment for me. I coo at him “oh well done, are you waving at the nice man?” And the nice man harrumphs and goes back to his newspaper without even acknowledging poor little DS, who looks crestfallen.

AIBU to think this man was a miserable git if he couldn’t humour a small child for five minutes, and WIBU to burn his house down in retaliation?

You smile and wave to your pfb instead. I'd have smiled back I embarrass my older kids by talking to every baby I meet!

I doubt your ds is crestfallen at 10 months old!!!!??

He’s just a stranger who is not interested in your child’s first wave.
Because only you and your close family friends will be!!
He doesn’t have to be friendly! Would have been nice if he was. But he’s not really invested in your child

Don't worry, he was a grumpy man who might be having a bad day.

Fekko Tue 30-Jan-18 20:02:58

Not everyone likes babies!

Wait, so, the man on the train didn't say something rude, or anything? He just didn't smile and wave at your baby, so he's a miserable git?

so clearly a massive milestone and proud moment for me

Ha ha ha ha.

I am a mum and absolutely HATE having to interact with other people's babies who I do not know. I just find it awkward and would not care in the slightest about his wave. Sorry OP but I feel sorry for this random man that you now utterly detest.

Very miserable git. Wish he'd smiled and waved at me.

Oddish Tue 30-Jan-18 20:07:42

At 10 months old PFB was having none of those emotions, don’t worry.

Jaygee61 Tue 30-Jan-18 20:08:30

I’d have been delighted if he’d smiled and waved at me, but you are going to have to accept that not everyone finds your baby as fascinating as you do.

Fekko Tue 30-Jan-18 20:09:51

Lucky he didn’t blow a raspberry back. That would have been a very irritating thing to teach a small child!

2pups Tue 30-Jan-18 20:10:16

When I escape from my kids I don't smile at babies either!

OverTheParapet Tue 30-Jan-18 20:10:48

@Fekko exactly what my DH would've done

balsamicbarbara Tue 30-Jan-18 20:11:33

Men have to be careful showing any interest in children in public nowadays

Fekko Tue 30-Jan-18 20:11:41

I would have probably stuck my tongue out!

peachypetite Tue 30-Jan-18 20:11:47

confused

FlashTheSloth Tue 30-Jan-18 20:12:35

YABU. He doesn't find your baby interesting and nor should he.

MorningstarMoon Tue 30-Jan-18 20:13:01

Not everyone likes babies. Just because he didn't wave and smile back doesn't make him a miserable git.

Just because someone has a baby and he/she does something sweet and cute doesn't mean the rest of us have to acknowledge him/her.

MayhemandMadness01 Tue 30-Jan-18 20:13:22

Ahh from your thread title, I thought you had clearly met my DH but alas we live no where near the tube.

I hate the expectation that some parents have that I should coo over their child. Now if they have a dog, that’s a whole other story. 😍

GreyGardens88 Tue 30-Jan-18 20:15:44

Not miserable, just doesn't care about your annoying child lol

LadyOfTheCanyon Tue 30-Jan-18 20:16:58

Hang on a minute, let me catch my breath.
