AIBU?

To ask who's at fault? Parking bump with pics!

OK, so the blue car is stationary (parked on corner but ignore that bit) the red car decides to park in the space behind it. As it's pulling in, the blue car starts to reverse, hitting the red car on the rear wheel arch. Who is at fault?

the blue car - if the red car wasnt moving, how can it be the red car?

(no pics though... sad face)

Blue car, it reversed into the red car!

oh hang on - they were both moving.... tough one - if red car was moving then the blue car should have waited.... blue car at fault i think but not 100%

Can't see the pics OP.

Are you saying both cars are moving? One pulling forwards and one reversing?

Report
Bluelady · 23/01/2018 21:18

They're both moving so it's probably no fault.

Well, based on where the impact is (wheel arch), blue car. You can't drive in to someone and hit them with your wheel arch, so red car can't have been the one causing impact.

Why did the blue car reverse when the red car was manoeuvring into the space?

I would say blue at fault.

The person reversing is usually the one at fault. It's very hard to prove otherwise when it come to insurance claims. Plus if the red one was already moving, the blue car should have waited.

And stupid to park on a corner. Please tell me you weren't the blue car OP.

If the blue car is stationary how could it of reversed? Hmm

Blue car shouldn't have started reversing while the red was still parking. Blue car shouldn't be parked on a corner.

Report
Pandoraphile · 23/01/2018 21:22

Definitely red. Because it was pulling into the area that the blue car was in already. So the onus is on the red car to ensure it can enter safely.

Red car shouldn't be parking on the other side of corner either.

Pandoraphile · 23/01/2018 21:23

Actually, I'm not sure!

Blue car, obviously not checking rearview mirror while reversing, lucky it wasn't a person they hit!

Where did the red car come from? It looks like it's gone across a junction to park on the opposite side of the road....

I'm so confused. Nice pic though.

Is anybody else singing "The red car and the blue car had a race, all red wants to do is stuff his face..." ?
Sorry, unhelpful.

Blue car at fault I'd say.

Blue car at fault. Red car was moving forward so wouldn’t have hit blue car without blue car moving backwards.

Report
fiorentina · 23/01/2018 21:26

Unless there are witnesses likely that it will be deemed 50/50 both at fault .

Report
DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 23/01/2018 21:26

Sorry, moving forward away from blue car.

Report
DiplomaticDecorum · 23/01/2018 21:26

Yay, pic finally there. Red car was pulling across the back of the blue car into the parking space. Blue car started to reverse.
