AIBU?

To think this cashier was rude!

NC for this.

Doing my shopping in Tesco this afternoon with my 6mo. Had to buy a pregnancy test which I had hidden in the bottom of the trolley in case I saw anyone I knew.

Anyway putting the shopping on the belt when the cashier starts asking about the baby. How I'm getting on, how she's sleeping etc. All fine. Then she scans the pregnancy tests and starts making comments about having two babies close together. Kinda drawing attention to it which I wanted to avoid.

Then at the end she asked if my 6mo was planned! Which she wasn't but I'm in late 20s and self sufficient.

AIBU to think that cashiers should show some discretion when people are buying things like this? And not asking very personal questions?

Being very British I obviously didn't say anything!

Yes, she was BU to even mention it. And you already realise that YWBU in not pulling her up on it there and then.

Good grief that's bad. Some people do not think. Hopefully nobody you knew was in the queue Wink

Yanbu! I understood to NOT MENTION THE PREGNANCY TEST as a 16 year old cashier.

I've never understood where these people who ask intrusive questions are coming from.
Who the Fuck asks if their children were planned. You might as well just ask about their sex life. ALso how does she know the test was yours.

As it goes I'm praying I'm not pregnant. It's taken me a couple of weeks to pluck up the courage to get one as I was worried this exact situation would happen! Or someone I knew would see me.

Thought I'll just get one with my weekly shop. Should draw the least attention.

I'm on the mini pill and been having random bleeding which I know you can get and pain in one side of m belly so thought I'd just double check. However not had sex for over 3 months so unlikely.

Just so embarrassing!

totally inappropriate
I'd probably ring them so that they can remind the cashiers not to do this

I went through the checkout in Superdrug with baby in sling, condoms, and a pregnancy test. Would have been mortified if the cashier mentioned it Grin

Oh I so sympathise, I had this in my local supermarket when I was buying one amongst other things... the male cashier asked “ooh how are you feeling about that?!”
Ground swallow me up!

When I was in my early 20's I had to buy a pregnancy test and I was terrified. I don't have kids, I've never wanted them and a pregnancy at that point in my life would have been very unwelcome.

I finally plucked up the courage to buy a test in Superdrug and as I was leaving the counter, the cashier winked and said "good luck!"

So inappropriate.

That is fucking awful. I get some horrible shop assistants asking if I am sad I haven't had a girl IN FRONT OF MY THREE SONS. My stock answer is 'No, because I might have ended up with a cunt like you'.

BTW. You have to tell us the result. Hope all works out okay.

I've had that, she asked what result I was hoping for ShockGrin

That's also reminded me of when I bought some senna tablets, young lad started reading the packet and said "what are these for then?" I said to help you go to the toilet... "what? I just read a magazine" he pipes up Grin

Shock I know they were 100% wrong and v. stupid to have said that to you, but am shocked at your 'stock answer'.

I bought a pregnancy test once and the cashier asked me if I wanted it to be positive or negative. I had no idea how to answer that! Just thought it was completely inappropriate.

Well my two oldest dc are 11 months apart so she would of had a heart attack when If she’d scanned my pregnancy test for the 2nd one.

The was is planned question, like why do people ask that? If the baby is here it does not matter as planned or not, the parents decided to keep baby and therefore love said baby.

Yes the cashiers should know not to comment out loud on certain purchases

A cashier in Boots tried to sell me folic acid tablets along with my pregnancy test. Maybe she had a sixth sense.

I don't actually use the c word given that children are present. I think it though. My actual words are more like 'horrible rude cow'.

And you are easily shocked.

Well, how was I to know that you don't say what you originally said is your stock answer?
