It's dds friends birthday tomorrow and she has just decided she wants to take her in some chocolate as a gift, only dd has sen and isn't very observant to what she normally has!

I know you have to stay away from certain foods and about Halal but we aren't sure what is okay and what is not.

Are things like normal dairy milk bar or those boxes of little dairy milk chocolates OK?
Can you suggest anything else please that will be OK that I can buy on a Sunday locally please.

Thank you!

Anything alcohol and animal fat free is fine.

Iliketeabagging · 21/01/2018 16:40

Ask yourself this question: does chocolate contain meat? Then make your decision.

newtlover · 21/01/2018 16:41

watch out for gelatine- anything chewy/moussey may have it

rightsaidfrederickII · 21/01/2018 16:42

Do check any sweets for gelatine as it comes from either pigs (clearly not halal) or cows (probably not slaughtered in the required fashion.

If it's vegetarian and alcohol free you're fine

PoptartPoptart · 21/01/2018 16:42

Actually, some chocolate has animal fat in, therefore it cannot be eaten by Muslims who follow a halal diet.
Check the packaging op.

It can have animal contents in that's why I'm asking.

Basically no meat products ( as could be pork or non-halal certified) so nothing with gelatin and no alcohol.
If it's vegetarian it should be OK, but there is a possibility that alcohol based sanitisers are used in the factory.
If you took a selection of nice fruit, that would be fine.

Fekko · 21/01/2018 16:46

Chocolate has lard in it? I dont think so - cakes are fine, gelatine is (mostly) not!

M&S Veggie Percy pigs are ok but horribly sweet. You can get halal/kosher sweeties from a lot of supermarkets these days. I avoid gelatine anyway (nasty stuff). An ordinary chocolate bar should be absolutely fine though.

CecilyP · 21/01/2018 16:47

Perhaps go with anything that says,'suitable for vegetarians'.

Ferrero Rocher are fine (BIL scoffed all mine perfectly ok!). Nuts though...

Weedsnseeds1 · 21/01/2018 16:50

www.angelfire.com/ma4/mcch/docs/halal.html
And another with lists of cakes etc.

IhaveChillyToes · 21/01/2018 16:50

I would avoid anything with "piggies" design on for halal or kosher tbh

Like the M&S ones above HmmHmmHmm

MyDcAreMarvel · 21/01/2018 16:51

They make halal haribo but not chocolate obviously.

Fekko · 21/01/2018 16:51

Dont be daft! My nephews and nieces adore peppy pig and veggie percies. They like the ham Quorn too.

Fekko · 21/01/2018 16:52

Peppa pig not peppy pig!

SaucyJack · 21/01/2018 16:53

DD1 used to be friends with a girl from a very strict Muslim family, and they all used to eat Mars Celebrations by the tub load- so I'd say they were fine.

Amanduh · 21/01/2018 17:00

My muslim pupils have always eaten dairy milk

MorningstarMoon · 21/01/2018 17:02

Dairy milk is fine as long as the chocolate doesn't contain animal fat etc you are fine. My treat is a flake on a Saturday 😊

ronniescue · 21/01/2018 17:03

Don't you just love it when someone tries to look clever by putting others down, but actually just makes themselves look like a stupid twat Grin

AdalindSchade · 21/01/2018 17:03

The vast majority of chocolate is suitable for vegetarians. Only things like chocolate mousse or jelly sweets may contain gelatine

Just think about that!

Fekko · 21/01/2018 17:05

They actually give me the sugar shakes.

Beeinthecity · 21/01/2018 17:06

Thank you you are all stars!
They have those celebration tubs in our local shop. Will look at those.
