To think all cheap candles are hopeless?

I've been burning loads of different from cheap to mid priced candles over the last few months and I thought they were OK, today I've lit my Jo Malone ( last one I will be buying seen as they give so much free shit to 'bloggers') and the room is filled with fragrance and it's divine!!!!

Please give me some insight into brands that also do this... I always feel let down!

You do have to spend the money for a decent candle, I’m afraid! Waitrose do nice mid priced ones if there is one near you.

I'm always happy with my woodwick candles, but only the 'winter' or 'earthy' smells! I don't like fruity or summery ones!

I love jo malone but I refuse to pay for them! My sister always gets the pine and eucalyptus reed diffuser for Christmas!

Iv heard good things about those aldi copies of jo malone but never used them!

Should add the candle is upstairs in the bathroom and the whole house smells lush (I burn them there cos there's no curtain, nothing near it and if by some miracle it drops it falls into the bath)

I buy the Airwick ones when they're on half price (£2) (cheap arse) and burn them in one hit. So a day and a night. They're actually not bad for a small room like a bedroom. The cinaman cinemen ? one is nice.

I used to spend a lot on candles - they are lovely. Just haven't got the spare cash at the mo.

Hmm some interesting suggestions thanks! Will have to check them out. I have tried Lilyflame but I typically like bigger candles ( kind of the size of a small plate if you know what I mean).

I'm hoping I can make this JM one last as loving it... just a shame the brand give them away for free but never offer discounts for paying customers grr!

I often buy the Aldi Jo Malone dupes and really like them. Never had a Jo Malone to compare but others who have say they’re decent copies. They last quite well and are great value. BlackBerry Bay is my favourite.

I would only buy candles made of soya or beeswax. paraffin candles which is what most cheap ones are made of give off very nasty things when burnt, and that’s not taking into account the chemicals from the artificial fragrances.

Shearer. They are a small family business and make scented tealights and candle tins. Not expensive but the fragrance is excellent. Also like Lily Flame, especially the lavender and lime one.

My friend recommended a website called wick n' wax. The woman makes scented wax for use in oil burners. It's fabulous-really lovely scents, massive variety, and good quality, but not too expensive. Definitely the best I've found in the candle/wax burning arena for scenting rooms.

I've got one called Tea and cakes on the go now-it's lovely, and I've only used a tiny amount but you can smell it all over the downstairs of the house.

I got some from an American brand called Makers of Waxed Goods in TKMaxx and they are amazing. Went to two stores and bought everyone they had in each, but it was only about 6 and they've nearly all gone now.

I emailed the company to see if I could order some, but they don't do international orders and TKMaxx are their only distributors.

They are really really good if you can get hold of some.

The White Company candles can definitely fill a large room with fragrance. (Not the votive size, the larger one) Not cheap but not as expensive as jo malone. And they often do 20% discounts through year which is when I stock up.

I've tried the aldi dupes. They only work in tiny rooms. Nice smell though.

The Aldi dupes look the part but don't smell of anything sadly.

I've got an Aldi diffuser thing at the moment and I'm not impressed. The only candles they had last week were Pomegranate which weren't nice.
