AIBU?

Does anyone else comfort watch TV?

I was thinking about what a weirdo I am- because that's what weirdos do!- earlier, because of my all time favourite TV programme (something got me thinking about it).
Then I got to thinking, is comfort viewing a favourite programme a thing? A bit like comfort eating? AIBU to just want to slob out and rewatch A Place In Slovakia or A Place In Spain every now and again?!

I think 99%of tv watching is to just zone you out and is, yes, comfort watching Grin

Every day! I've been watching Friends on Netflix constantly since it appeared on there a few weeks ago. Seen them all so many times and it finished about 15 years ago, but it's my comfort TV. I watch and re-watch loads of comedies - Arrested Development, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Peep Show. I never get bored of watching them

Yes. I LOVE Murder She Wrote. It's absolute rubbish but it gives me a warm, happy glow that Jessica can sort the whole world out in her calm, gentle way.

Friends is my go to show. Glad it's on Netflix, it gives my dvds a break! And The Vicar Of Dibley is a good one, when the world gets too ugly and I just want some gentle comedy.

Yes. I used to comfort watch Buffy as a teenager. My favourite comfort watch these days is Poldark as it's on Netflix. I only watch fifteen minutes or so but it's enough for the calming effects of the scenic shots and old timey music to work. I always avoid the episode where the child dies though.

Always!

TV relaxes me; I love Teen Mom and Poirot/Marple when I’m stressed out or feeling sick.

I'm glad it's not just me 😂
I must have seen both of those series dozens of times, same with Castle in Slovakia, and they're quite old now.
During my last pregnancy I was crap and looked them up on YouTube, there was something quite comforting about watching Lee and Cheryl, and Ann and David's antics even though I know exactly what happens!
It's so good though.
I like having Only Fools and Horses or Friends on sometimes even if it's just in the background.

Do you mean A Place in Spain with Lee and Cheryl, OP? One of my all time favourite comfort watches too! I often wonder about them now.

Oh and Titus from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt makes me happy every single time!

I have Neighbours on series link 😊 and have watched it since I was a teen, when I used to go home for dinner when I was in school.

I always get the piss ripped out of me for it, but I don't care.

I'm doing it now. Sick at home all day and am currently watching Wanted Down Under even though it's driving me mad.

Yesss Leonora!
I sometimes wonder aswell, wish them all the best but mostly that Cheryl got some sort of happy ending. If she posted on here about Lee, she'd have been told to LTB because of his madcap schemes and commitment issues! Such a character though

Definitely! I’ll watch endless episodes of Friends or Gavin & Stacey or Carpool Karaoke etc as they cheer me up when I’m feeling down and take my mind of things when I’m wide awake worrying about stuff at 2am.

I comfort watch Gavin and Stacey, aaaall the time! My 14 year old did and her mate always join in and watch it with me, we know all the episodes word for word!

Barefoot Contessa or Nigella, or at a push Hairy Bikers are my preferred background noise tv :)

I know, I often think that about if she had posted on here. I'm sure I read somewhere they were no longer together. Must Google.

I watch Bewitched, lovely clothes and everything always works out well in the end.

I have comfort books and films too.

Our 'go tos' in the evening are Father Ted, the IT Crowd and stuff like that. If I have time on my own then I watch series on Netflix or musicals.

There was some kind of study about films and emotions ages ago. Some bloke was advocating certain films to alleviate stress. I think he probably has a point.

YES - thank goodness it's not just me. I watch stuff like Agatha Christie if it's on even though I have all of them on DVD. I watch old series like Upstairs Downstairs or the Dutchess of Duke Street or Inspector Alleyn because I like the slower pace of life in bygone times and I know the plots - so no nasty surprises. Darling Buds of May is another - as well as Adam Dalgliesh and Rumpole.

I do like some current stuff too but mostly police dramas or period stuff - or, even better, period police stuff.

It just makes me feel calm and it doesn't require my full attention.

Oh yes absolutely. Love a bit of midsummer murders! That's why I love my DVDs. I can re watch and re watch. It's very sad, but helps keep me sane sometimes when I am struggling.
Also love staying up to watch family guy on my days off.

I comfort watch tv - mainly Netflix comedy boxsets - all the time. My job is quite full on and it helps me wind down and relax, even though I have seen these episodes before and know what’s coming.
