The only time I find myself reaching for the iron these days is if someone is going to a wedding and a shirt, or outfit needs ironing. Or if one of us is going for an interview.
Otherwise, I'm careful how I wash and hang things. No creases. Job done.
I don't have an 'ironing basket' and never have a pile of ironing to get through every week.
Am I slovenly? or what?
My mother is a slave to the iron and spend hours and hours every week wading through a pile of ironing. Whereas I don't see the point. Life's too short. I've worked it out my mother spends, on average, 12 hours a week Ironing!

Do you iron?
Or not?

(Obviously if your job entails having an ironed shirt Monday to Friday, exceptions are made)

Nope. Dds uniform which dh irons while he irons his own stuff for work. I am like you, hang stuff up etc and am picky in what I buy. I wear skinny jeans alot, and dress and tights for work, which do not need ironing.

I have a friend who irons her leggings!!! Bloody madness. Life is way too short.

I iron dhs shirts and the kids school stuff but that's all

I'm exactly the same as you! If you hang it out properly it didn't need an iron (weddings, special meetings and work, interviews are the exception)

My mum used to iron bedsheets, jeans and pants!!! PANTS!!! What a waste of time!!!

My husband is ironing his work shirts downstairs right now.

I iron some of my things; I don’t hate it. It also helps to get the baby to sleep, he quite likes the standing and rocking motion.

No I don't iron either. I do have one but it mostly gets used for hama beads :)

When kids were younger, if it couldn't be tumble dried it didn't get bought/worn. Putting things away straight out of the drier means there are few creases, as you say. We do have a few things that need ironing, but these are mostly special occassion items that are hardly worn.

I buy the M&S non-iron shirts for DH and DCs, so even they don't need doing.

Yes, I iron. Having kids did it to me. I feel it's easy to buy adult clothes which don't need ironing, but it's not the same with kids clothes.

Also I do think you can tell when people don't iron and I do think it looks worse (sorry Blush)

I love ironing!! However, I'm not gonna spend 12 hours a week doing it! My husband is builder - his work clothes don't get ironed obvs, my son has clean uniform every day so I have 5 sets of uniform to iron and whatever I wear for work! Then whatever we wear at the weekend and 'gasp' our pjs!! It's not a massive amount and I do it on a Sunday afternoon, but as I say, I enjoy it!

It's definitely going out.
I mainly live in jeggings or leggings which don't need ironing. Even my more formal clothes seems to have inbuilt creases, so there doesn't seem to be a need for ironing.
I think the days of wading through a pile of ironing have passed. Thank God.

I haven't ironed in 7 years. Dh made a comment about his shirt being a bit crinkled and he's done it ever since. And dd1's uniform.

My dm irons everything, bed sheets, pillow cases, tea towels. Mad.

I normally do all the ironing on Sunday afternoon/ evening. I quite like doing it actually, I normally use it as a
Chance to catch up on TV. I like knowing it's all done and all my clothes are ready for work.

If you're careful how you wash, hang and dry things then there is no need to have so much ironing?
that's how I do it.

Nope, I iron once/twice a year. I hate it, it’s boring and takes too long! I just hang clothes carefully or put away straight from the tumble drier.

I scrunch clothes before I buy! If they crease (unless linen) I won't buy!
Haven't ironed for over 10 yrs! Grin

We iron shirts, some tops, duvethe covers and pillowcases. Nothing else. Steam iron so all very quick. I prefer it to a lot of other tasks

Not in my house although to be fair if I wasn’t such a lazy cow and put them away as soon as they were dry rather than throwing them on a chair and leaving them for days they wouldn’t need doing.

I like ironing. I find it relaxing.

I must be missing the ironing gene! I see it as a chore, hate it and don't find it in the least bit relaxing.
but, each to their own Smile

I haven't ironed anything for probably a decade

I iron everything. I don't think it is a sign of a wasted life or madness. I have certain standards. All my clothes need ironing. It takes and hour or two and it is done.

Nope I don’t iron. Like you, if we were going to a wedding/funeral/job interview then I would iron an outfit but that’s it.

I used to iron. My parents had it drummed into me that you ironed everything. Quite literally, erverything. Underpants, socks, towels, bedding, pyjamas. I remember they nearly fell out with me when they came to see us when ds was a few weeks old. Suggested I go to bed for a sleep just as ds puked all down himself and my dad took the total hump that I wouldn’t iron a babygro for him Hmm I mean, seriously?!

I did continue to iron till a couple of years ago when I decided life was too short and I’ve not missed it one bit. I wouldn’t buy anything that would look awful without ironing and I’m careful with hanging stuff up to dry. Also I’m virtually a sahm so live in jeans and jumpers so it really doesn’t matter.

I like ironing. I am selective about what gets ironed though. DH loves the tumble drier so anything that can go in there doesn't get ironed. Pillow cases, shirts, creased clothes do get ironed. Pyjamas, workout clothes don't. I only iron the front of t-shirts, but I will put a sharp crease into the front of a pair of tailored trousers.

I suspect ironing is fundamentally a hang over from the times before tumble driers, spin driers and reasonably well heated houses. If it's been drizzling the last three days and your washing has been hanging in a damp house in the hope it will miraculously get dry, you're probably going to want to iron it before you wear it just to get the damp out. And perhaps it used to help with control of bugs too?

To my DM's horror I cannot remember the last time I ironed. Probably the last wedding I went to! My DC's have never worn ironed clothes and I just don't buy things for me that need ironed. If my DH wants his shirts ironed for work he can do it himself!
