How the hell could the Americans make this mistake?!

They announced an incoming missile alert for Hawaii which is in range for North Korean missiles. The mistake wasn't corrected for nearly 20 minutes according to the BBC.

I'm wondering if something got hacked?

Guessing it was the mistake of a few geniuses rather than Americans as a whole.

Copying my comment from another thread.

I am NOT a conspiracy type person but two things don't add up:

  • why did it have a "this is not a drill" message when this goes through a chain of command to go out
  • how come a correction text didn't go out sooner?

Something doesn't add up here.

A wrong button was pressed. But on a positive note the residents got an excellent unannounced practice drill.

I bet a few families are going over there backup plans

W0rriedMum

The messages are pre written and get sent when ordered.

I assume it took a while to cancel it because the guy didn’t realize he accidentally sent it

Stable genius strikes again! Probably a Trump voter who fell asleep at the control desk after eating one too many cheeseburgers...

The whole state is calling their loved ones and the responsible people (because one person alone cannot send it out - there are multiple steps) doesn't realise it was sent?

I don't buy it.

Yanbu. Some mistakes can never be rectified. Must have been a very hairy moment for all involved!

I read about a family that put their kids in the bathtub, because it was the most enclosed part of their house, and completely broke down. What awful scary times we live in.

The news here is reporting that 'someone' pushed a button by accident. Luckily (so far) no one was hurt or died as a result of the mistake. I'm sure a big lesson will be learnt and new safeguards will be put in place to see this doesn't happen again.

It took nearly 40 minutes for a correction. I’ve seen a clip of a woman putting her children down a storm train. People were apparently calling their family to say goodbye. Sounds like it’s a ticket to statewide PTSD Hmm

It’s amazing isn’t it. A British person have never made a mistake. Because we all know the British public sector is the best in the world, and definitely not shit at all.

Those poor people .
There are surely steps thst are taken, a few people must sign off on it before the text was sent?
What were the media saying ?
