AIBU?

Primark PJs destoyed my sheets!

I don't normally wear pyjamas in bed but I've been plagued by insomnia and having a regular bedtime routine was suggested - a relaxing bath then taking some time to wind down. Not wanting to traumatise DS and his friends with the sight of me in my nightdress, nor for the cat to use my bare legs as a pin cushion, a couple of months ago I decided to buy some PJs in Primark to wear post bath before bed.

They were great. They looked fantastic, a plain black jersey V-neck top with wide leg pants with velvet trim. They were comfy. They washed well, no need to iron them, they came out of the washing machine creaseless. My legs have not been scratched to pieces and no one has been blinded by my white legs. All good.

Until this week... I've spent the week home alone in bed with flu. With no one else to tackle the laundry mountain, after several sleepless, sweaty nights, I was out out of clean nightwear so I resorted to wearing the Primark pyjamas in bed. The next morning, my beautiful white 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets had been turned into a filthy looking, grey stained mess Angry

I've tried washing them with colour run remover but it's done nothing Sad The stained part is still grey. Not just a bit grey, the same colour as DS's actual grey bedsheets.

AIBU to think that pyjamas that you can't actually wear in bed without staining your sheets aren't fit for purpose? Angry Angry Angry

Maybe you should have done better than Primark for pajamas then.

Their stuff is crap and pours with dye.

Can't quite get past the fact that 'they don't need ironing'. Who irons pjs?

Myself and the 3 kids have tons of Primark pjs. Never had a problem!

No problems here either, we've had them for years and it's never happened to our white sheets.

Who the fuck irons pjs?

I’ve had clothes where the dye runs before (not primark) but it’s generally before the first wash and definitely before the first 5.

As you’ve had them a few months I’d say that was really unusual! Could they have picked up dye from any other new clothes/ pen ink/ oil from your last wash?

It can happen I'm afraid and it's horrible :(

For your sheets: bring a large pot of water to boil and add 1 cup of vinegar. Remove pot from heat and add your whites. Soak your laundry overnight, then wash as usual.

I also wash all new clothes and put vinegar in the rinse before I wear them.

I think you've been unlucky - I always buy Primark pyjamas and have never had a problem. Mind you I've never gone for the more elegant dark colours.

If the sheets are white you could try soaking soaking them in bleach or Milton - that gets most things out.

Maybe test a patch first...

I had similar sounding PJ’sfrom Primark for after I had DD3 and didn’t have a problem, spent a fair amount of time in bed as unwell afterwards too. How long have you had them? Would they not be colourfast by now?

Oh no i’d be so upset op! I love nice bedding and i’m not averse to cheap pjs, and I don’t think this is to be expected, even if they are primark.

I’m not a big complainer, but in this case i’d take a photo and send it in an email to their customer service and explain what’s happened (nicely, not all guns blazing) and ask if they can reimburse you for a new sheet.

I had the same problem with a primark pair. Will only buy light coloured PJs now

Is it dye, or is it actual fibres? Tiny dark fibres could have shed and got embedded in the sheet.

DD's boyfriend bought her pjs from Primark (only 16 I might add) for Xmas, they looked cosy. Then suddenly my washing was full of glitter, everything, totally fucked with glitter. My DCs are teens now but this reminded me of glitter "craft" fucking stuff when they were in pre-school etc - turns out the PJs actually had real life kids glitter stuck to them. Primark has its place, I put it too you MNetters that its not our beds.

I've had the same happen with dark brown pj's , I think they were from M&S. There was a brown Creme shaped stain on the sheets that I could never get out.

Have you tried Vanish oxy for white clothes? I accidentally got dark pink stains on white towels and it removed it really well.

TheWhisperingSky · 13/01/2018 20:16

I'd complain and ask to be refunded or exchange pj's. If the sheets are plain white cotton, then soaking for a short time in a dilute bleach solution should sort them.

My primark pj’s have never done this.
My white company ones have.
You’ve had an unlucky pair!

Fancy sheets people iron PJs, obviously. I lie there on my Tesco value tracing paper sheets in my creased as fuck primark colour running PJs Grin

If the Tesco value sheets are in the wash I usually just use bin bags.

You can get that colour run remover from Wilko, probably Dylon that works well

daisypond · 13/01/2018 20:23

I've never had that issue. I love Primark's PJs, especially the 100% cotton ones. I've got loads.
