AIBU?

To think the no pubes thing is a trend....

My previous career had me seeing people's genitals on a daily basis. Most had full pubic hair. Now I can see (mostly on naked attraction) that fully shaved is the fashion.
But was slightly surprised when a 50 something friend of mine said he prefers shaven as I assumed he would be less 'trendy' like me with my 80s stylefanny
Is it just a personal preference?? In my day at work it was defo rare to see fully shaved. Out of 20 people you'd be lucky if 2 were bald!

Shave it/don't shave it. Meh.

So let’s all pile on and talk about whether our fannys are shaved or not and why. Errr,no.

Well, stubbly chins and beards are back in. So, swings and roundabouts...

Before anyone suggests it's some paedo/porn thing!

I think live and let live, but I think it's also yet another pressure for women to bear.

It used to be just diet, trim down there, shave your legs, blow dry your hair and put on some makeup.

Now its fitness for a sculpted body as well as clean eating, full body wax, hair extensions as well as styling, and lash extensions/fillers as well as makeup.

I dont judge and do some of the aforementioned myself.

But I do think its interesting that as feminism has apparently strengthened, the pressures on women physically have increased.

Just look at video footage from the 80s or 90s and compare to today. It all seemed pretty low key back then in comparison.

I also worry about teenage girls these days.

Im in my 30s so pretty impervious to this shit, but I go on FB and every other segment is a hot fitness vlogger or hair straightening brush ad etc. I think if I were 15 today I would be feeling pretty insecure.

Sorry rambling post. All this to say: I think the fully bare look is definitely more omnipresent today, and I think its symptomatic of a more perfection-oriented society - despite arguments that it feels cleaner or just more pleasant. I mean, even with the "it feels cleaner" statements - just how dirty do you think your vag can feel? Don't even get me started on "intimate hygiene" soaps and lotions. Still waiting for a "scented foreskin cleanser", until then im sceptical.

I don't care if you shave yours or not juliesaway it's just a bit of your body. I'm not looking for shared intimate details just wondering if other people also think this is more of a trend rather than a personal preference.

"Piling in and talking" about ANYTHING is generally the whole point of mumsnet!!

It does concern me that it's beginning to be seen as the norm when it's not really very healthy.
I know someone who uses Nair, which I didn't think you were supposed to use around there.

Someone uses Nair? Even reading that makes me shudder.

It's a 20yr trend so far then...

Of course it’s a trend. I was feeling slightly irritated that it was seeking personal details and was a wank fodder thread for a perv. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Great post glitterunicorns well written.
I too agree that it's added pressure on women. I have similar feeling about anal sex but that is another thread. And again from previously having a career in sexual health I know that this has definitely been 'normalised' in recent years probably due to porn

My adult DD considers unshaven lady pubes as something that's actually nauseating whilst I consider the alternative as deeply suspect. Generational thing that I really don't understand

Possibly started as a trend then became personal preference ?

Report
womblinglove · 10/01/2018 08:30

Its not, in my opinion generational.
I am 50 odd. Fully bare. Why? Because sex, especially oral, is incomparably, off the scale better.

End. Of.

I thought no pubes had been and gone and the bush was back? I'm late 20s and have always had varying degrees of full bush with a bikini line wax so as not to scare other swimmers.

DP keeps everything v short down there but never judges me for a fuller bush!

wombling better for you or your partner? I just find it so incredibly itchy but then I am very dark haired.

It is certainly a trend, and a huge pressure on women. There are plenty of reasons not to do it- health, comfort, time, and money. www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-health/11087771/Pubic-hair-8-things-you-need-to-know-before-you-shave.html

I also think there is something creepy about finding a child-like pubic area attractive.

Certainly for me, Immy. Presume for him too! Oral certainly.

@clarashu I can assure you that having had 2 kids, there’s nothing remotely childlike about my bald pubic area 😂
Pubic hair naturally thins out as we age, she why is the reference always to being child like-surely it should be OAP like?

Report
womblinglove · 10/01/2018 08:41

Oh here we go with the creepy and childlike comments.

Live and let live, eh?

Report
inmyshoos · 10/01/2018 08:43

Claraschu you see rightly or wrongly i feel creeped out by it. If I see bare shaved ladies I just think yuk. I much prefer a little hair or even a moderate amount. It just looks more adult. I can't help but associate hairless genitals with prepubescent
