I've escaped with pretty normal gifts so far (minus individually wrapped Lindt chocolates from my grandma) but my teetotal DP has just received 2 bottles of rum from my DF thanks dad

Have you/family had any weird ones?

three diaries, one for each of us, for 2017, from DSis MIL

Mulberry72 Tue 26-Dec-17 10:46:34

A candle holder in the shape of a witches cauldron with 3 used candles in it!

Thanks MIL!

Semolina that's a useful gift as you don't need to turn the light on at night to know where to aim. I had one but I was so alarmed when I saw orange wee in the bowl I turned on the light to have a better look which defeated the object. Wee was normal, it was the toilet light that made it that colour.

A chicken swing. That's right, a mini garden swing for my chucks.
Yep - and I'm completely chuffed with it. (Not sure if DH is, though....)
I might be turning into a batty old chicken lady; like cat lady but more eccentric.

A lanisoh hot/cold treatment for breasts during breastfeeding presumably to help stop mastitis.
I’ve never had mastitis. I have a really good pump and as far as I can see this treatment isn’t ever going to get used.
Even more of a kick when I actually said to him “please can you get me a stronger chain for my necklace or a tag with littlest name and dob.”

My Godchild (really SIL) got me a giant poker card set. We play cards in the evening with the kids, a Christmas tradition started by ILs but its not a betting game and not poker. I have no idea why she thinks my 1 day a year playing cards with the family means I want to venture into gambling games, why I needed it to be 'giant' (does she think I have bad eyesight?) or why I am the only family member with an attraction to poker. (Also either the box got battered or its a regift).

An oven glove, I mean it’s a very nice joules oven glove but still a strange gift off my husband?

showmewhatyougot Tue 26-Dec-17 12:32:24

A can of car de-icer spray. I was 13 at the time hmm

OrangeFluff Tue 26-Dec-17 12:59:39

A play-doh set. I am early 30s with no children.

Hortonlovesahoo Tue 26-Dec-17 13:12:17

A used Filofax. A bunch of gifts that were obviously from the local petrol station. My MIL brought me some oven gloves as she noticed we didn’t own any

DonutCone Tue 26-Dec-17 13:17:41

SIL gave me a stamp with 'baked by Donut' on and a picture of a cupcake along with a pack of tags.

Now I've thought no and hard and age come to the conclusion she either hates me or has confused me with my 7 year old DD.

MumGoneMild Tue 26-Dec-17 13:27:16

Six fence panels from MIL

Asked for though, I'm a happy lady fgrin

iheartcupcake Tue 26-Dec-17 16:09:43

This thread is on DAILY MAIL, just seen it

halfwitpicker Tue 26-Dec-17 16:10:53

Not that weird but a mini salad dressing pump dispenser.

Could be either really useful or one for the charity shop.

halfwitpicker Tue 26-Dec-17 16:11:16

Fucking DM fshock

OrinocoDugong Tue 26-Dec-17 16:27:13

I would love a chicken swing if I had chickens.

I seriously considered asking for the glowing loo thing but the only versions I find are gadgets that hang inside the bowl like a bleach block which would mean I would have to throw it away after a few weeks. When I first read about them I thought they would be a gadget that sat on the cistern and projected light down into the bowl, hence staying clean and hygienic.

Fuck the Daily Mail and all the shallow minded fools who read it. The headline on the front page today was hilarious though - saw it in a service station on the way home. The poor little snowflakes are being all sad that their great victory in bringing us patriotic blue passports (that will incidentally give is fewer rights and freedoms than those they replace) is being disrespected and mocked by elitists.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor Tue 26-Dec-17 17:36:55

I got last years generic smellies set from MIL.

Jerseysilkvelour Tue 26-Dec-17 17:43:22

My DM gave my 5yo a cutlery set.

katseyes7 Tue 26-Dec-17 17:44:31

For about five years running, l got a Steradent tube with £1 coins in it from my mother. Not that l was ungrateful for the money, but they reeked of mint.....

ProfessorWaffle Tue 26-Dec-17 21:56:24

I posted on another thread - but my gift of glasses to wear whilst chopping onions which are diamanté encrusted definitely fit on this thread too

IndigoMoonFlower Wed 27-Dec-17 01:56:07

MIL gave me a cat cushion. It only has 3 legs, but I don't think she noticed... grin Made me laugh anyway!

babymouse Wed 27-Dec-17 02:10:21

Random cleaning products from IKEA from SIL hmm

Solo Wed 27-Dec-17 02:11:54

Dd was 11 on Boxing Day and received a packet that said 'Sewing kit' on it; I thought they were coloured shoelaces. Turns out there were 5 different coloured lengths of elastic in it. Very strange. Dd was hmm?

Todamhottoday Wed 27-Dec-17 08:37:26

Few years ago my DH bought me a breathalyser!

Very practical
