AIBU?

To wish the media would just for once name the fucking problem?

www.theguardian.com/world/2017/dec/18/suspect-arrested-over-death-of-british-diplomat-rebecca-dykes-in-beirut

Another woman raped and murdered by a man.

Another day another dollar.

But the guardian says it “wasn’t politically motivated”.

Ok maybe not but it was motivated by hatred of women. If every news outlet consistently called these incidents what they are, gender based violence, and accompanied them with stats on rape then maybe people would start to join the dots and realise the enormity of this global problem.

Or maybe it wouldn’t make a jot of difference because people see VAW as inevitable.

YANBU.

AdalindSchade · 18/12/2017 22:12

YANBU Angry

MaidOfStars · 18/12/2017 22:16

Sex-based violence.

But your main thrust is not unreasonable at all.

YANBU

SmileEachDay · 18/12/2017 22:20

Yup. It’s almost as though men don’t do 98% of sexual violence, if you listen to the meedja.

It should say “Man rapes/kills/assaults woman. Every. Single. Time.”

A little learning is a dangerous thing.

Is this what we do with our education these days? Make the shallowest, most pointless observation possible? Here OP I can top your effort.... The biggest common denominator is that all violent crimes are committed by human beings. Do I get a gold star from the sociology department?

AsMenDclaredWomenTheirInferior · 18/12/2017 22:34

Yes YANBU and all these crimes males commit against females should be registered as hate crimes.
So why aren't they?

NSEA · 18/12/2017 22:35

@scatterolight you have missed the point no?

Nicketynac · 18/12/2017 22:35

As far as I know, she was a diplomat, so when they say "not politically motivated" I assume they mean not related to her job.

HumphreyCobblers · 18/12/2017 22:36

There is nothing pointless about the observation that it is mainly men who kill women.

skopu · 18/12/2017 22:37

YA totally NBU

that would be so much better/more accurate too.

I'm in Cape Town (alone) for a few weeks and keep being told to be careful, don't use public transport, use Uber!!

I'm thinking, if I got attacked - because I do take the train and walk around but am sensible about it - how would the media spin the motive?

The only people I feel threatened by are men (of whatever race). But in the media it would be 'white woman attacked '. And black women no doubt get attacked here a lot but it would never make headline news.

SmileEachDay · 18/12/2017 22:38

So why aren't they?

Because women aren’t a minority. Yup.

So it ^totally fine* to do whatever the fuck you like to us.

AsMenDclaredWomenTheirInferior · 18/12/2017 22:42

@scatterolight
nope
"Why don't we just say, people rape, instead of men rape?
I mean just because men are responsible for 98% of all rapes, why the focus on men?"
men ask?

Nickynackynoodle · 18/12/2017 22:46

It’s so fucking tiring.

and this leaves me speechless

If misogyny was a hate crime they'd have to start taking it seriously, and that would be very expensive because it's an epidemic Angry

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 18/12/2017 22:52

I’ve read your link Nickynacky and now my blood is boiling. How dare these fuckers tell us feminisms Work is done, women have nothing to complain about, equality has gone too far? The epidemic of violence continues year on year unabated.

ShoesHaveSouls · 18/12/2017 22:57

Yanbu. I haven't even the energy to say any more - just... YANBU.
