Whilst skimming through the Apprenticeships website (looking at possible options for DS) last night , I came across an apprenticeship for my dream job !
As a gardener working in a local historic garden ...I have always wanted to work in this type of setting since leaving college back in 90's but needing to pay bills, having lack of practical experience and then family happened
I have searched for age restrictions and there isn't any ...I think we could manage on the £/hours for the two years , but I would be the ancient one at the college wouldn't I ? and Apprenticeships are meant for middle aged mums are they ?
Do I apply anyway and see if I get anywhere ?

YANBU! At all!

If there are no age restrictions then go for it. I’ve interviewed people in their 50s for apprenticeship schemes.

Do it. I applied for an apprenticeship at 47.

Why not? The worst that can happen is that they say no.

A lot of horticulture apprenticeships involve a lot of manual labour, are you really fit? Can you move logs and compost heaps as well as a strapping 20 yo? On college days most of your classmates will be young and annoying.
Apply and see how it goes. If you are serious about being a gardener an RHS course may be better suited.

I am fairly fit but not as strong as your average strapping bloke though ..it is the college day that puts me off to be honest !

It's not the course as such but the practical experience and working with a Head Gardener and hopefully it leading to a permanent job ~ either there or elsewhere ~ like a foot in the door really
My age will go against me though I suppose , apparently they don't get the same government funding if you are over 24yrs
Will apply and see what happens !
