AIBU?

To never send Christmas cards

I never do. Haven't for years. Some years I buy them and intend to but I never do. A couple of times I've even written them but not got around to posting. The only one I send is to my mum (and I send her a parcel anyway) because the one year I didn't she sulked about it for weeks.

Every year when the nice cards arrive from all our friends I feel guilty - but not guilty enough to actually sit down and write cards. I wouldn't care if we didn't get any and I think it's a waste of time and money and card at a hugely busy time of year so it never ends up happening. I'm not sure if anyone has ever noticed. I think if I had not had a return card as many times as our friends have not had a return card, I'd stop sending to me, so maybe they haven't noticed...

Am I an awful person?

I didn't even know this was still a thing. Haven't had one for years!

I write about 20. Some of the older relatives look forward to getting them and I am not going to deny them that.

We get about the same amount. We always do neighbours.

No.

Your family and friends will be totally used to this by now.

I suggest you cut out the introspection on this one and stop buying cards you'll never send.

Nope, I never send them either. If I receive one I usually say thank you that’s very kind, please don’t be offended if I don’t reciprocate as I don’t ever send Christmas cards

I haven't sent cards for the last 10 or so years, I thought it was the norm now.

I still send them. I do feel there’s a lack of thought when I don’t receive one back. I guess there trying to tell me something! I’ll not bother next year if this how you all think.

We send a few to a small number of Dh's relatives who take card sending very seriously. Apart from them we dont send any. I'm not a very festive person though.

You miserable gits Xmas Grin

I give cards to people as a "thinking of you" kind of thing. Or to acquaintances that are more than people you nod at in passing, but not people who you would consider a friend iyswim?

Yes we still send and receive quite a few.

I don't usually do them but my dd started school this year so I'm doing lots of cards for her teachers and all her classmates. It's good for her practicing writing her name but no. Outside of school I'm not bothering.

We donate to the food bank instead, most of mine would need to go in the post and that's a lot of money which I can't justify when there are families In my local community who can't afford food

Most people I know have stopped doing them but we send/receive about 20 (10 posted; the rest neighbours and family).

I'd happily stop altogether but I think some of the people we exchange cards with would be hurt, so I carry on doing it.

I buy cards cheap after Christmas. I think of it as a way of showing people you are still thinking of them and appreciate them being in your life.

I'm so not a cards person!

I always end up with undelivered ones in my car where I've forgotten to hand them out.

I don't have a mantelpiece so we have NOWHERE to put the bloody things when we get them.

My mum always makes a point of saying she goes to Clintons for her "big cards" (which she gets for immediate family. All individual cards like "to my daughter and son in law type of ones") and her neighbours get a 'box' card. Then she complains that she's spend over £20 on bloody cards!

I always tell her now to bother and better off saving money, just give me a box card if you feel you have to and write something nice in it. Gah!

Do you send birthday cards OP?

We send cards. It's lovely to have them flooding in at Christmas giving news of old friends, and we would all be even more dilatory about keeping in touch if it weren't for the "nudge" of Christmas.

I still send about 25 cards (less than half the number I used to). I have actually set aside this morning to write them but haven't got started yet.

I haven't done any this year - it seems a bit of an anachronism in the electronic age and we keep on touch in other ways now. The ones I've received are sitting in a pile waiting to go in the recycling bin; I feel a bit guilty but have nowhere to put them up and don't even like the bloomin' things if I had.

I send cards to family, close friends and neighbours.

They all get reused or recycled after.

I also donate to charity regularly through the year.

We also send cards to the people in the home around the corner and do shoe boxes for them as they have no relatives or relatives that don't bother visiting so they have something at Christmas to open.

I also treasure my last birthday card and Christmas card off my Dad.

001 Grin

I'm not very good at writing letters anymore so when I send Xmas cards I'll chatter away.

ExH said he found it really weird that I'll write personalised Xmas cards with lots of chatter rather than just saying 'happy Christmas'

I don't anymore and donate the cost of the stamps I've saved to Crisis.
