Would you call a land line at 9.30pm?

Someone has just called my home for my mother who is out. Waking up my dd.

I think it is way too late. I know its a Saturday but really!AIBU?

I find land lines intrusive at the best of times.

It depends whose, and what night of the week it is - essentially whether I can be fairly sure they're still up. 10pm is probably my landline cut off point, but earlier if the owner's habits dictate that.

if i needed that person then i would call them at 9.30pm after 11ish unless it was urgent i wouldnt.
Surely thats the whole purpose of having a telephone so that people can call you.

I actually don’t think that I know anyone under 70 with a landline. I can’t remeber the last time I called a landline other than for work.

I never call mobiles much either. Always text. I would text anytime really.

Surely after 8 is chilling time unless its an emergency or a close friend.
This is why I prefer mobiles.

It depends who I’m calling and what day it’s is really. Like I wouldn’t call my grandma at 10pm ever, but I know if I was to ring MIL or my mum then they would probably be up regardless of what day it is. In fact mum may well not be back from work by that point but dad would definitely still be up (not that he would likely answer the phone!!). Early mornings I wouldn’t call my mum before 7 as she would think someone had died, but MIL is up about 5.30am so I wouldn’t hesitate to call her at 6 or 7.

I really feel for the parents whose children can't sleep through the phone ringing. My DS would sleep through hoovering under the cot once you got him down so I ever worried about it but can see how that could be a problem with a light sleeper.

Not if you are calling DH. Someone rang him at 9.30 the other night on the landline and he was not impressed. I think it's different if you call a mobile as many of them are on silent so you shouldn't in theory disturb sleeping children etc. Whereas DAunt and her friends happily call landlines and wish each other good night at 11pm.

I have a landline, because mobile signal is so poor, where I live. Not that I know anyone to call me, unless it is a man from India, telling me that my computer has a problem.
